Department

Radiologists

Denver Health, the premier teaching hospital and safety net institution for the city of Denver and entire Rocky Mountain region, is seeking a PRN breast imaging radiologist for flexible, intermittent, in-person subspecialty coverage.

We offer a stimulating and supportive environment that prioritizes both patient care and physician well-being in state-of-the-art facilities completed in 2021. Candidates with strong interests in education, research, social media outreach, and/or health policy that match the mission of the institution are encouraged to apply. Numerous opportunities for growth exist in each of these areas within the division with dedicated mentors and collaborators.

Denver Health aims for a world-class breast imaging division focused on delivering efficient, productive, and cutting-edge clinical care; a robust and growing educational program for students, residents, and fellows; and a research portfolio focused on collaboration with others inside and outside the department. Intermittent faculty at Denver Health have adjunct faculty appointments at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Key position benefits:

  • 100% breast imaging position with flexible intermittent hours; no evening or weekend call requirement.
  • Academic trainee-driven environment - teach and work alongside motivated residents and fellows!
  • "Best in KLAS" PACS, MagView reporting, and Epic EMR, all integrated.
  • Highly supportive departmental and institutional leadership committed to individual career development on either clinical or academic promotion tracks.
  • Opportunities for future operational and academic leadership at the hospital or SOM for motivated candidates.

The Organization

Denver Health is an integrated, efficient, academic health care system that is considered a model for the nation. As Colorado's primary safety net institution, Denver Health provides the full spectrum of medical services from primary to oncologic care. Serving one third of the city of Denver, as well as patients from outside Denver, Denver Health provides primary care services via a citywide network of community health centers, school-based health clinics, and a new 7-story 293,000 square foot outpatient medical center. Inpatient services are housed in multiple campus buildings with 555 adult, pediatric, and OB/GYN beds. Denver Health is committed to serving all patients, regardless of the ability to pay.

The Breast Imaging section recently relocated to a new outpatient pavilion early in 2021. This state-of-the-art facility includes a full complement of mammography equipment including a fleet of new 3D Hologic Dimensions Mammography units, Hologic Affirm Prone and Upright Breast Biopsy systems, and all new ultrasound equipment. Breast MRI is performed on new Siemens Magnetom MRI units also located in the outpatient center. The breast imaging area is over 9000 sq ft of meticulously designed space centered on patient comfort and privacy as well as staff efficiency. The breast imaging facilities share a floor with the associated surgical and medical services providing care to breast cancer patients.

Denver Health is committed to serving all patients, regardless of the ability to pay, and caring for the underserved is part of the Denver Health mission. There are endless possibilities for the division to create, build, and sustain screening and diagnostic imaging services that optimize care for vulnerable populations.

Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM). All faculty at Denver Health have CU SOM appointments and are valued participants in a variety of educational, research, and clinical collaborations. Faculty have access to the academic and cultural resources of Denver Health, CU SOM, and other affiliate institutions.

Position Summary

The candidate being sought will participate in the delivery of the full spectrum of breast imaging services, including procedures, tomosynthesis, contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. In addition to the breast imaging services currently offered, Denver Health seeks to continuously improve and innovate, including expanding and advancing our breast MRI service line.

Denver Health breast imagers participate in the education of University of Colorado medical students, radiology and IR/DR residents, and fellows. There is a strong desire to continue to expand our educational offerings for students and trainees. The department values patient-centered care and a highly collaborative work environment. There is a strong working relationship with surgery, oncology, primary care and other services.

Reporting Structure

The radiologist will report to the Department Chair of Radiology with direct mentorship and supervision from the Chief of Breast Imaging.
