Description

The Real Estate Counsel serves as full-time, in-house counsel for Highwoods, with primary emphasis on working with the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel with respect to drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases and assisting in the legal aspects of the Company's operational, acquisition, disposition, development and financing activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Draft, review and negotiate lease documents.
  • Provide training and oversight to leasing representatives relating to negotiation and drafting of leases and other contracts.
  • Assist in real estate acquisitions, dispositions, developments, financings and related transactions.
  • Provide legal advice and assistance to field personnel on various company-related matters, including property management, construction and insurance-related matters.
  • Assisting in the generation, review, negotiation and tracking of various types of commercial contracts, including commercial office leases, construction contracts and purchase and sale agreements..
  • Be a principal point-of-contact between legal department and leasing agents relating to the negotiation and drafting of leases and other contracts.



QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:



  • Organized individual who is highly motivated and detail-oriented to comfortably function in a challenging, diverse, and fast paced/high-energy work environment
  • Must be licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina
  • 3+ years' experience in a sophisticated real estate law environment, either with a private practice law firm or in-house


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
