Overview
The Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life is a national leader in civic education, whose teaching, research, and community partnerships are setting the standard for higher education's role in civic engagement. As the only university-wide college of its kind, Tisch engages Tufts students in transformational learning opportunities via hands-on field-based experiences, community building, and public service. These engagements prepare them to become active citizens and community leaders. Tisch research centers conduct groundbreaking research on young people's civic and political participation and forge innovative participatory action research partnerships with communities.
Tisch College's North Star-building robust, inclusive democracy for an increasingly multiracial society-seeks to cultivate knowledge, leaders and living experiments that expand possibilities for democratic development in the context of increasing risks to democracy worldwide. Our programs and research centers focus on strengthening the political participation and voices of historically marginalized people, especially youth, and on addressing the challenges of building and reviving democratic institutions needed for multiracial/ethnic societies. What You'll Do This is a 20 hour/week position supporting the collaboration between Tisch College and the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine to ensure that every Cummings School student has a pathway to civic engagement. The position is directly supervised by the Tisch College Program Manager for Health Sciences and works closely with the Cummings School Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and Outreach and other designated staff and faculty to co-create programming that aligns with the needs and priorities of the Cummings School. The Program Administrator also participates actively with the Tisch College student programs team. The student programs team oversees a robust portfolio of curricular and co-curricular opportunities to develop and enhance civic learning for students across the university. The Program Administrator will thus enable mutual learning about best practices and alignment of Cummings School programming with Tisch College programming.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager for Health Sciences, and working with staff, faculty and/or students at the Cummings School, the Program Administrator oversees multiple programs and initiatives related to civic engagement and service learning. The Program Administrator identifies civic engagement opportunities and designs and implements associated events and activities. In this way, the position plays an integral role in supporting Tisch College's work to meet students where they are and engage them throughout their time at Tufts.
