There are two openings associated with this job posting.

Note: these positions may be filled as an Engineer III or one level higher at the Senior Engineer level, dependent upon the selected candidates experience.

These two openings are for Transmission Protection Settings Engineers to create and support settings configurations across the Midwest.

Additional areas of focus for this role will be:

  • Compliance requirements related to System Protection

  • Interpretation of relay documents and Protection & Control design drawings

  • Remote Engineering Access Modeling and Support

Responsibilities

  • Perform Protection Calculations and Coordination to protect the grid,

  • Maintain Relay Database for Midwest Relay assets and settings,

  • Support compliance activities related to relay setting and coordination,

  • Interface with Relay Technicians to support install and commissioning of settings,

  • Conducts engineering and related studies; expected to engage in frequent working group phone calls and face-to-face meetings to coordinate and implement changes as a result of fleet and recognize industry best practices,

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,

  • Maintains accurate records and files,

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Basic/Required Qualifications - Engineer III

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.

  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience.

Basic/Required Qualifications - Senior Engineer

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

  • Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be needed for face-to-face interactions with engineering and relay field personnel.

  • Expectation to be hands on in lab environment with protection based devices for template development, testing, and debugging.

  • Both full-time onsite and Hybrid mobility classifications are acceptable for this role.

  • Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility
