The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering with more than 2,500 students and 80 faculty. Purpose

The Technical Staff Assistant IV role provides coordination and operational teaching labs support for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and provide effective operational support for research and academics. To role receives and responds to work-related instructions from ECE Director for Academics and Administrative Services and IT Director.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with identifying, procuring, and deployment of specialized components and starter kits for ECE teaching labs; assembly and testing of starter kits

  • Assist ECE Checkout inventory and operations

  • Assist with managing the operations of the ECE Fabrication lab

  • Maintaining soldering equipment and providing technical instruction on proper soldering techniques

  • Assist with repairing and maintaining electric and electromagnetic equipment

  • Oversee the management of ECE Copiers and printers reserved for course instruction

  • Assist ECE Space Coordinator; reaffirm ECE occupancy and usage during annual space reviews

Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.

  • Three years of professional work experience in skilled maintenance of specialized electronic equipment using machine tools.

  • Some knowledge of electronic circuits, wiring, and soldering.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to self-pace to complete job in time allowed.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent planning/organizational skills and success in a dynamic customer service environment.

  • More than four years of experience in the required fields above.

Salary Range

$56,000+ depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Prolonged screen time.

  • Use of manual dexterity.

Work Shift
  • Flexible from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required on an occasional basis during peak times
