Job Description:

The Docket Clerk is responsible for supporting attorneys in various practice groups by providing in-depth expertise in docketing, court rules, procedures, legal proceedings, and case trial activity. A remote work schedule is available for this position for candidates within a two-hour commutable distance to one of our New York offices.

Location: Albany, NY; Buffalo, NY; Long Island, NY; New York, NY; Rochester, NY

  • Review all practice papers and pleadings and docket as appropriate using CompuLaw.
  • Search, retrieve and download online court dockets and filed documents as requested.
  • Prepare various calendar and case reports from CompuLaw.
  • Provide ancillary support for electronic filing in CM/ECF.
  • Provide instruction to other staff in electronic filing rules and procedures.
  • Consult with staff and attorneys to ensure compliance with court rules and procedures, including appellate and bankruptcy proceedings.
  • Assist attorneys and staff in other offices of Nixon Peabody with local court proceedings and court filings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a Managing Clerk or Docket Clerkrole. Experience using CompuLaw preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree required. Work experience in lieu of a degree considered.
  • Knowledge and competence in litigation calendaring systems, electronic filing in state and federal courts and web-based research skills.
  • Working knowledge of New York State Uniform Rules, CPLR, FRCP, Court Practices and Court Procedures.
  • Prior docketing experience and familiarity with Milana, Compulaw, or CourtAlert.
  • Must be able to organize, prioritize, and complete numerous tasks in accordance with deadlines.
  • General familiarity with best practices regarding docketing, calendaring and record keeping as they relate to loss prevention issues in the legal environment.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required to effectively communicate with a diverse group of attorneys and staff.
  • Exhibit a high level of customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with limited supervision.
  • Willingness to work with a national team of experienced docketing staff to provide consistent quality services regardless of location.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Albany, NY: $52,500 - $72,050; Buffalo, NY: $52,500 - $72,050; Long Island, NY: $63,000 - $86,900; New York, NY: $63,000 - $86,900; Rochester, NY$52,500 - $72,050.

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range is Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
