Senior Facility Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for overseeing the physical facility in addition to critical manufacturing support systems and processes. The position looks for opportunities to eliminate waste and reduce the operating costs of the business. This position plans, directs, and coordinates major capital investment projects that support the corporate operational and strategic plans. Manages large projects in a "Matrix Management" environment utilizing key individuals from other departments such as Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Continuous Improvement, Maintenance, Design Engineering and Manufacturing Operations.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees critical plant & facilities support systems and keeps them operating efficiently and as designed.
  • Support company strategic goals by developing short and long range equipment, spending & support plans.
  • Key project management. Identifies needs, coordinates the design of equipment & systems, obtains bids, generates E201 capital funding requests with supporting documentation, manages project from conceptual idea through implementation & startup with operational documentation. Controls costs within approved budget levels.
  • Develops and manages projects that affect productivity improvement to meet or exceed corporate goals.
  • Manages projects to re-engineer processes in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Manages projects to upgrade key systems.
  • Manages projects to support key design & process changes for new products.
  • Manages capital equipment implementations and facilities expansion / consolidation projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Direct and coordinate operation, maintenance and repair of equipment as needed for production & facility process systems
  • Troubleshoot PLC code using company standard methods and conventions
  • Familiar with variable frequency drives and applying them appropriately as required
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and ladder logic
  • Oversees critical plant & facilities support systems and keeps them operating efficiently and as designed
  • Flexibility and willingness to cover the needs of a 3 shift (24 hour per day) production operation as needed to accomplish goals
  • Identifies needs, coordinates the design of equipment & systems, obtains bids, generates capital appropriation requests including the economic justification with supporting documentation, manages project from conceptual idea through implementation & startup with operational documentation. Actively manages costs within approved budget levels
  • Support company strategic goals by developing short and long-term equipment goals related to costs, savings, and support plans
  • Develops and manages projects that affect productivity improvement to meet or exceed company goals. Provides leadership to project team and motivates them to attain agreed upon goals:
    • Individual will support major plant systems and manage major project resources on a per project basis and will direct and draw in individuals from various departments
    • Re-engineer processes in both office and manufacturing environments
    • Upgrade facility and manufacturing support systems
    • Support key design & process changes for new products
    • Capital equipment implementations and facilities expansion / consolidation projects
    • Function as consultant and coach in regard to other project initiatives
  • Continuously learn about existing products, equipment, processes, and new and evolving technologies and processes:
    • State-of the-art developments in tools, processes, automation, and systems
    • Identify and develop productivity and process re-engineering projects
  • Individual will direct and manage outside vendors and consultants.
  • Primary responsibilities will be to initiate and manage projects/programs to support:
    • Facilities & grounds expansions, consolidations and improvements
    • Plant & office HVAC systems
    • Plant & office electrical systems
    • Fire alarm & security systems
    • Plant oil systems
    • Vapor phase & coil processing systems
    • Plant vacuum & hot oil systems

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Operations or related degree
  • 4+ years of functional experience

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with industrial automation (PLCs, programmable devices and related network and communication)
  • SCADA experience
  • Familiarity with utility industry communications protocols (e.g., Modbus, SCADA systems)
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering background and interest, including controls, software, hardware, and mechanical systems
  • Progressively responsible experience in a relevant engineered-product environment
    Basic computer skills / literate with Microsoft Office product
