Architecture - Sr A+T Change Manager

Serves as a trusted advisor to clients by effectively managing and mitigating changes that arise during the construction phase of large-scale projects. This role ensures that modifications affecting cost, schedule, and scope are identified, evaluated, and resolved in a transparent, timely, and client-focused manner.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


Leadership



  • Coordinate with the project manager for all construction change matters.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to evaluate proposed changes and their impacts on cost, schedule, and design quality.
  • Administer structured change management processes, including documentation, review, approval, and reporting.
  • Prepare cost and scope of analyses related to design revisions, unforeseen conditions, and contractor requests.
  • Negotiate change orders with contractors and subcontractors, ensuring fairness and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Maintain thorough records of change decisions, approvals, and financial implications for reporting and audit purposes.
  • Advise clients on strategies to mitigate risk, minimize disruption, and control cost escalation.
  • Align all change decisions with client project goals, regulatory requirements, and overall design intent.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in change management across global project teams.
  • Provides cost control leadership for all project phases, from business case development and stakeholder engagement to design, construction, and activation.
  • Proactively identify risks and develop integrated, creative solutions for complex problems.
  • Facilitates communication and coordination with a wide range of stakeholders, including airport authorities, airlines, regulatory agencies (like the FAA), and contractors.
  • Coordinate with project manager on cost control aspects.
  • Assists senior management in developing and validating project scope and fee, budget, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process.
  • Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional relationship with the Project Leadership Team.
  • Assists in preparing project presentations. May participate and/or lead client presentations.
  • Consistently provides complete and timely communication of project information to and from clients and project teams.
  • Responsible for managing changes/additional services (ASR) using the Deltek and Smartsheet's Project Management system.
  • Ensures that budgets have been developed to provide for Quality Management Program through the life of the Project.



Management



  • Works with Project Managers and Clients to avoid or eliminate conflicts in schedule due to the changes.


  • Provides ongoing communication through team meetings/minutes/up-date memos to the project team.


  • Communicates with clients, consultants, contractors, sub-consultants, and other disciplines to ensure effective communication.


  • Monitors construction administration during the construction phase.


  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients and consultants.



Business Development



  • Participates in developing annual business plans for the Regional Practice.


  • Identifies new business opportunities while developing current client relationships. Listens for and seek out new projects which may exist or are being formulated.


  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.


  • Assists in the development of fee proposals for marketing proposals.


  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships throughout the project. Keeps client and project manager appraised of project progress on a regular basis. Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals for clarification, coordination, and negotiation of critical issues.


  • Consults with clients to determine function and spatial requirements, and prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time. Plans layouts of projects and integrates engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.



Staff Development



  • Provides leadership including professional development coaching and mentoring staff.


  • Defines staff requirements for projects as needed or directed. Makes recommendations to senior management for staff promotions/terminations for the project team and Architecture discipline. May participate in interviews and recruit professional staff.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required. Master's degree preferred.


  • 13+ years of experience in architectural practice with prior management experience in all phases of airport and/or other transportation facilities projects through post-occupancy.


  • Licensed Architect with current registration in your region preferred, if licensure is offered in your region.


  • NCARB registration preferred.


  • LEED accreditation or Green Associate preferred.



SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:



  • Knowledge of airport planning, design, construction documents, construction administration and project construction cost control for airport and transportation facilities.


  • Demonstrated ability to analyze impacts on cost, schedule, and scope, and to resolve complex issues


  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.


  • Ability to effectively work in a team atmosphere. Ability to be flexible in multi-tasking and assignment adjustments.


  • Able to demonstrate proven and effective communication and leadership skills.


  • Strong knowledge of design trends, construction methodologies, material application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.


  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems.


  • Ability to manage multiple projects of a complex scope.


  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.


  • Proven ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with external clients and perform in a team environment.


  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.



Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected range for this position is $180,000. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
