THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services is seeking motivated and energetic Equipment Operators to join the support services team at Wernersville State Hospital. In this role, you will use your experience with different types of equipment and machinery to maintain the safety, efficiency, and overall condition of the hospital's buildings and grounds. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Equipment Operator A, your primary responsibility will be providing transportation for consumers, along with performing other assigned duties as needed. This role involves operating a variety of vehicles and equipment to transport supplies, maintain the grounds in a safe and visually appealing condition, and carry out snow and ice removal. You will be responsible for routine maintenance of equipment and vehicles, including cleaning interiors and exteriors, waxing, performing minor repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, and assisting the automotive mechanic with more complex repairs when necessary. Prior to leaving the grounds, you will be expected to complete safety checks and equipment inspections to ensure compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. Additionally, you will perform manual tasks using both powered and non-powered tools, load and unload trucks, clean streets and catch basins, and maintain landscaped areas by cutting and trimming grass and brush.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Weekend shifts are required every third or fourth week. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime: As needed and subject to emergency call-in
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirement:

  • You must have possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires the selected candidate to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within the probationary period, in order to meet operational needs.
