Household Hazardous Waste Program Assistant

• Assists in the collection, processing, storage, and preparation of electronic waste and household hazardous waste for shipment.
• Identify and categorize chemicals and other hazardous substances to determine appropriate blending, packaging and storage methods.
• Maintains the cleanliness of the HHW facility and grounds, ensuring all storage areas are secure and organized.
• Addresses inquiries of the general public regarding the operations and services available through the department.
• Safely operates material handling equipment such as forklift and pick up truck to move heavy containers.
• Performs work with regular and predictable attendance consistently meets the scheduling needs as required by the county.
• Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience related to the program area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
• The ability to operate a forklift and pick-up truck.

• Standing for most hours in an outdoor work environment with exposure to various types of weather/elements
• Frequent heavy lifting of at least 50 lbs.
• The work is typically performed in an environment where the employee may be exposed to varying temperature and/or weather conditions as well as varying degrees of distractions, conditions and/or chemicals and/or waste which requires the employee to pay attention to one's own safety as well as that of customers and citizens served.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid Driver's License (from any state) and good driving record required at time of application.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License required by first date of employment with good driving record.
