The impact you'll make

As a technician in the SEM Lab, you will support Lam's various business groups by delivering rapid data turnarounds that enable faster time to solution for Lam engineering teams serving our customers. Productive internal microscopy work not only reduces turnaround time but also lowers costs for Lam compared to outside providers. Productive technicians help win business opportunities and reduce costs for the company-a win-win.

This is a night shift position, Wednesday through Friday, with alternating Saturdays, working 12-hour compressed shifts from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

What you'll do

The primary responsibility for this position is the preparation of STEM/TEM samples and imaging using Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) on Thermo Fisher Helios systems. Additional responsibilities may include FIB-SEM analysis.

Requirements:

  • Follow laboratory methodologies for STEM sample preparation in accordance with quality standards.
  • Optimize personal workflows to ensure efficient sample throughput.
  • Communicate with lab management to provide accurate work completion time estimates.
  • Provide feedback to lab management to support continuous improvement opportunities in laboratory workflows.
  • Communicate with team members to ensure alignment on methodologies.
  • Protect customer materials and intellectual property at all times.
Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in a physical science, with a minimum of 2 years of SEM experience in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience operating dual beam FIB/SEM tools for the preparation of lamellae for STEM or TEM imaging.
  • Candidates interested in pursuing electron microscopy as a career.
  • Experience operating dual beam FIB/SEM tools, especially in the preparation of thin lamellae for STEM or TEM imaging.
  • Individuals who see task repetition as an opportunity to iterate and innovate toward better methods.
  • Careful, detail-oriented observers.
  • A strong interest in learning and the ability to respond well to feedback.
  • Familiarity with key developments and materials in the semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Experience in customer IP protection and sample handling is a plus.
  • Ability to work a shift schedule.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
