This Sales Engineer role supports a Tier 1 service provider by delivering technical leadership and solution design that enable new business growth for Ciena. Embedded on-site at the customer headquarters, this position serves as a trusted technical advisor, translating customer requirements into differentiated optical networking solutions that demonstrate both technical and business value.

How you will make an impact:

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to service provider customers across engineering, operations, and executive stakeholders
  • Translate customer requirements into end-to-end solution designs using Ciena hardware, software, and services
  • Deliver technical presentations and demonstrations that clearly communicate solution capabilities and business outcomes
  • Develop optical network designs and engineering documentation to support new technology proposals
  • Create bills of materials, quotes, and customer-facing templates using Excel and related tools
  • Collaborate closely with Account Managers to support account strategy and opportunity execution
  • Maintain awareness of market trends and portfolio evolution to articulate differentiated value

The must haves:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in Sales Engineering or architectural roles supporting Tier 1 service providers
  • Application of optical networking technologies in network engineering or sales engineering environments
  • Utilization of Ciena portfolio elements including RLS, Waveserver, Navigator, Planner Plus, and SAOS
  • Creation of optical network designs using Planner Plus
  • Presentation of technical solutions to audiences ranging from technical teams to executive leadership
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and manage competing priorities in a customer-facing environment
  • On-site presence in Dallas, TX three or more days per week without the need for travel

Nice to haves:

  • Background in 4G and 5G wireless networking, including xRAN and fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul architectures
  • Exposure to automation, analytics, and AI applications in networking operations
  • Industry certifications relevant to optical or service provider networking

Pay Range:

The annual total target compensation pay range for this position is $111,700 - $178,400 USD. This includes both base and incentive compensation.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
