Reporting to the Audiology Clinic Manager, the Audiology Aide performs developmentally appropriate behavioral management of children for valid test results. Organizes appointments, scheduling, intake, follow-up, and liaison with referring physicians, referring agencies and educational programs. Assumes responsibility for financial information pertaining to each patient including authorization and billing, maintains monthly revenue and statistical reports, and maintains general office function. Additonally, this position provides clerical support to the Audiology Department. This position functions independently in carrying out standard and complex office procedures as well as interacting with other hospital departments and clinics, physician offices, providers, and patients/families.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to deal effectively, courtesously and successfully with management, physicians, staff, patients, community and vendors.Able to be an effective problem solver through active problem identifications and collaboration with other staff, physicians, providers, insurersmanagers from other departments, and Hospital Administration.Able to resolve conflicts in a pro-active manner that demonstrates a high level of customer service.Under direct supervision of attending audiologist, performs behavioral management of patients in hearing evaluations, hearing aid evaluations, and hearing aid checks in such a way that valid findings can be obtained; maintains order of test suite and play equipment used in testing.Screens intake information pertaining to hearing loss or auditory dysfunction and determines developmentally appropriate form of testing required according to guidelines established within the department; refers inappropriate cases to Management Coordinator for discussion, or to alternative services, e.g. Speech/Language Center, CDC, etc. Documents all contacts with medical or educational personnel, parents, hearing aid dispenser, etc. in chart or intake.Performs outpatient infant hearing screening under supervision of audiologist.Performs ICN infant hearing screenings and follow-up, including sending letters to pediatricians, scheduling follow-up appointments, obtaining funding authorizations, making charts, discussing any follow-up problems with the audiologist; maintains records on all ICN babies in department records and on Patient Care Inquiry system.Posts data to various records and forms, makes and maintains charts, gathers data from various sources and prepares reports, answers and files correspondence, and performs similar duties requiring the exercise of clerical and office skills.Reviews and processes all incoming referrals via EMR (Electronic Medical Record) workqueues.Greets families, answers questions, and directs families to other areas of the hospital.Gathers accurate patient's demographics to ensure complete registration items required in the EMR.Schedules appointments for patients, as directed by departmental policies. Registers patients via EMR system for appointments.Verifies insurance eligibility. Obtains and issues authorizations and referrals as needed for clinic.Processes patient billing according to hospital policy. Inputs charges into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), billing manually when necessary. Maintains knowledge of contracted payers and other revenue sources. Receives and posts payments according to hospital policy - department dependent.Assists families with completion of forms (Medical records request, medical clearance as needed, CCS applications, hosptial consent forms, etc.)Supports phone queue, sorts mail/faxes.Maintains provider template schedules.Arranges interpreter services as needed.Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, customer service, safety, environmental and infection control standards.Audits work to ensure consistent processes and quality.

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
