Registered Nurse - Pediatric Pulmonary Clinic, Oakland

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Ambulatory Pulmonology Nurse autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory setting. They will utilize a high level of clinical knowledge to fulfill patient needs, ensure efficient patient care, and provide patient education when necessary. The Pulmonology Nurse will act as a patient advocate and as a liaison between insurance companies, inpatient/outpatient services, patients/families and all other necessary healthcare services to manage and facilitate efficient and timely coordination of care. In addition, the Clinical Nurse II will assist in the development of patient care standards and practices.

The Pulmonary Nurse is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs for a panel of pediatric Pulmonology patients and providers in the ambulatory setting. Their responsibilities include assisting with insurance authorizations and prior medication authorizations, contacting home health companies, assuring DME and other home supplies are adequate, assisting with medication refill requests, patient teaching and assisting in the overall coordination of timely patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year full-time RN experience in pediatric inpatient setting
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association CPR/BLS certification
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Recent experience in the use of electronic medical record documentation
  • Recent experience with pediatric patient population in inpatient and/or outpatient setting
  • Recent full-time RN experience in pediatric outpatient pulmonology care coordination
  • Recent (within last year) experience working with trached/vented pediatric patients
  • In depth knowledge and experience with pediatric patients requiring advanced respiratory care (ie-tracheostomy and long term ventilator dependent)
  • Phlebotomy experience required
  • Experience in managing Gtubes, Central line access and care, drawing labs
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
