Job Description

The UMKC Department of Information Services is seeking an IT Project Manager who is team-oriented and known for their attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to take initiative.

This individual will be responsible for working with fellow IT Project team members, departments, and academic/business units to plan, execute, monitor, control, and close simultaneous IT projects. Many of these projects will be part of campus construction/renovation efforts. Familiarity with projects of this type is preferred. This individual will also be responsible for managing programs (collections of related projects).

This individual will perform project management services in support of campus and system projects and must be able to perform job tasks in a busy environment with frequent interruptions while meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.

Successful applicants will be organized, patient individuals, who can remain calm and problem solve in fast-paced situations. This individual will be expected to provide exceptional customer service to our faculty, staff, students, and community. Work performed is often time-sensitive, therefore multitasking skills are very important. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and submit project documentation (including financial/procurement details) to functional director/executive sponsors for review, approval, and priority assignment
  • Prepare, implement and manage project plans addressing scope, cost, schedule, quality, human resources, risks, communications, change management, and procurement
  • In conjunction with functional managers, select appropriate human resources, set resource availability percentages, set resource scheduling calendars, and coordinate task assignments
  • Execute, monitor, and control projects. Set a project baseline. Prepare and submit documentation for major changes to the budget, time to completion, and scope for approval. Monitor project schedule and keep it up to date. Review and endorse project team members' time reports; coordinate and verify time submissions with functional manager(s) as needed. Monitor and mitigate risks. Identify and manage issues throughout the project. Monitor quality of deliverables and advise functional managers of defects. Prepare and submit periodic status reports to stakeholders
  • Ensure all deliverables have been realized. Prepare and submit project closure documentation for review and approval. Identify and include actual project costs in closure document to compare with the original charter/planned estimates. Capture lessons learned into the project workspace for later search and retrieval
  • Track all projects/programs in University-owned Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tool. Become proficient with the PPM tool and act as a trainer for other local resources
  • Other duties as assigned
Shift

The typical shift is 8am to 5pm. The position is expected to work on campus 2 days a week, plus attend any in-person project meetings as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Management Profession (PMP) certification and/or other Project Management certifications are preferred and four years of experience. Familiarity with working on construction/renovation projects to deliver IT services.

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,915 to $84,968 annually.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
