Family Engagement Specialist

The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking a Family Engagement Specialist to lead consistent, high-quality engagement efforts that connect families to resources and support.

About the Role

The Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for building relationships with families, coordinating engagement activities, and connecting families with community resources. This role requires strong ownership, reliability, and the ability to consistently follow through on engagement efforts and partnerships.

Your work will help ensure families feel supported, informed, and connected to the resources they need to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Family Engagement & Outreach




  • Plan and execute a consistent calendar of family engagement activities, including events, workshops, and outreach



  • Serve as the primary point of contact for families seeking resources and support



  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with families to understand needs and reduce barriers to participation



  • Ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment across all engagement efforts




Community Collaboration & Resource Development




  • Represent the YMCA in local community resource meetings and translate insights into actionable engagement strategies



  • Maintain and regularly update a centralized family resource guide, including childcare, employment, health, and government supports



  • Build and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations to support key transitions (e.g., kindergarten entry)



  • Strengthen relationships with local agencies to expand access to family supports




Advocacy & Family Support




  • Promote culturally responsive and inclusive practices across programs and community initiatives



  • Support families in accessing services by providing information, referrals, and guidance



  • Assist families in navigating community systems, including EEC programs and financial assistance opportunities, within defined role boundaries




Program & Event Coordination




  • Plan and coordinate family-centered events that promote engagement and community connection



  • Organize and execute community donation drives (e.g., coats, backpacks, school supplies)



  • Ensure programs and events are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to diverse communities




What We're Looking For




  • Experience in family support, education, social services, or community outreach



  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective relationships



  • Ability to collaborate with schools and community partners



  • Demonstrated cultural competency and commitment to inclusive practices



  • Strong organizational skills with consistent follow-through



  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently



  • Sound judgment and professionalism in community-facing situations



  • Experience in planning and executing events or programs from start to finish



  • Multilingual skills (especially Spanish) are a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in family engagement, education, or community outreach.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate effectively to and advocate for diverse groups of people from all social and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong ability to facilitate inclusive family programming and work with diverse populations.


Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to travel between locations for community engagement and supervision.
  • Flexible schedule required, including evenings and weekends for family events.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods while maintaining alertness.
  • Position may require bending, kneeling, leaning, and walking.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to speak concisely, communicate effectively, and lead group discussions.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and community engagement.
