JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Job Summary

Individual will perform all duties associated directly with operating and cleaning large floor machines such as a riding sweeper, floor scrubber, swing machines, and carpet extractors.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Provide care and cleaning to tiled, carpet and concrete floors

• Scrub and sanitize bathroom sinks, toilets, fixtures, floors and walls

• Operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, scrubbing machines, buffing machines

• Clean and wash walls, windows and ceilings

• Replenish restroom supplies, papers, soaps, etc.

• Perform collection and proper disposal of trash, recyclable materials, etc.

• Removal, stripping and refinishing of floor finishes and applying of new floor finishes

• Change light bulbs

• Efficiently and safely operate and use cleaning equipment and chemicals

• Regularly service and clean machines used in care of building

• Set up and move furniture and equipment for special events

• Safely climb step ladders to perform custodial duties

• Comply with safety requirements and report any unsafe conditions or unsafe equipment to supervisor Perform building and security functions (i.e. locking and unlocking doors, building lighting, room checks, etc.)

• Comply and assist management in emergencies.

• Provide prompt, correct responses to stakeholders and customers.

Additional Functions:

• On-the-job training of part-time/workers/program workers/new hires.

• In threatening weather assist in directing customers to secure locations.

• Substitute for absent employees.

• Shovel snow by assigned entrances.

• Drive College vehicles locally for equipment and supply pick up.

Minimum Qualifications Required

In limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.

Education:Less than High School

Experience:<2 years

Preferred: custodial experience

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

In order to perform the functions and responsibilities of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, including language skills, reasoning and mathematical abilities are essential.

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, emails and memos; discuss information one-on-one and in small groups.

Ability to add and subtract numbers using basic units of measurement.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagrammed instructions; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Technical Skills:

Ability to navigate to and between computer applications; read/reply to emails, open/save/close files and applications; find, format and print documents; operate common office equipment.

Ability to pleasantly initiate, maintain and end a conversation; act in a professional manner using appropriate language and body language.
