Job Overview

This team member creates or revises Parts Manuals and Technical Data Manuals associated with Komatsu equipment. This role is critical to support parts uptime for North American manufactured products. This role is supervised by the senior level team members and Technical Communications Manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

* Collaboration: Search factory and service data sources (ERP, SAP, Adept, SalesForce, Baan, etc.) to support OEM parts manual/technical data manual creation/update. Work with SME's and vendors for content and illustration support to update and publish documents.
* Information Gathering: With training, research engineering drawings; blueprints; electrical, hydraulic, and/or pneumatic schematics; applicable industry standards; other internal/external documents; interviews with engineers; service technicians; tradesmen and assemblers; attend relevant machine production meetings (sales, engineering, service, marketing); and coordinate with third-party vendors and suppliers for information regarding parts and drawings for related products.
* Service Part Integration: With training, extract serviceable parts from BOM data to create or edit parts for Komatsu products. For some products, maintain vendor parts list for serviceable vendor parts not listed by engineering bills of materials.
* Illustration Creation/Revision: Create, manipulate, or revise illustrations, 2D/3D Engineering CAD data, in various tools including Adobe Creative Cloud, Lightweight CAD tools. Accurately hot-point illustrations to a BOM parts list for the component and/or assembly. Coordinate as needed with outsource support for overflow and illustration support.
* Project Management: Manage projects accurately and on time. Provide timely edits to confirm that format, spelling, and style are in accordance with published standards.
* Leadership: Successfully complete individual goals and support department or company initiatives.
* Technology Integration: Utilize service parts management within parts catalogs to create Parts Manuals. Utilize tracking tools such as Salesforce, Asana, etc., to manage development process.

Qualifications/Requirements

* Bachelor's in engineering, Technical Communications, related degree, or related work/military experience.
* 0-2 years related experience in technical writing
* Ability to perform root cause analysis with strong problem-solving skills.
* Possibly 5-10% travel to examine equipment in the field; Gemba with customers or distributors; industry specific seminars/training; departmental training or meetings
* Image/illustration editing experience.
* Technical aptitude or ability to learn Komatsu machine systems or technical content.

* Ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with others.
* Commitment to staying updated with technology and best practices.
