The System Engineer I is responsible for the provisioning, installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of systems hardware, operating systems, virtualization platforms, and related infrastructure. This role supports onpremises, virtualized, and cloud-based systems, ensuring reliability, security, and availability of services for end users and business applications. The System Engineer I participates in technical research and continuous improvement efforts to enhance system supportability, security posture, and operational efficiency. This position is based out of the Gainesville, Georgia headquarters and reports directly to the Manager, Network & Security. Responsibilities Systems Administration & Operations
- Provide system administration and technical support for Windows and Linux servers running in physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
- Perform routine system administration tasks including server provisioning, application installation, patching, configuration changes, and access support.
- Monitor system health, performance, and availability; respond to alerts and assist in resolving issues.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving hardware, operating system, and application-related issues.
- Document symptoms, root causes, and resolutions.
- Track system issues through resolution using established ticketing and monitoring tools.
- Review monitoring logs to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
Virtualization & Storage Support
- Assist in the administration and support of VMware vSphere environments, including virtual machine provisioning, snapshots, basic troubleshooting, and resource monitoring.
- Support underlying storage systems (SAN/NAS), including capacity monitoring, datastore maintenance, and performance issue escalation.
- Assist with backup and recovery operations for virtual machines and file systems.
- Coordinate with senior engineers on storage maintenance, expansions, and performance tuning activities.
Cloud & Microsoft Platform Support
- Assist with administration of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 services, including virtual machines, storage, monitoring, and basic networking components.
- Support hybrid environments, integrating onpremises VMware infrastructure with Azure services.
- Assist with identity and access management tasks using Azure AD / Entra ID.
- Support system monitoring and logging using cloud and onpremises tools.
Security & Penetration Testing Support
- Support adherence to organizational security policies, configuration standards, and hardening guidelines.
- Assist with vulnerability scanning, penetration testing preparation, and remediation efforts under the direction of senior engineers or security teams.
- Support patching, configuration remediation, and validation activities resulting from vulnerability or penetration testing findings.
- Review security alerts and logs, escalating suspicious activity as required.
- Participate in backup validation and basic disaster recovery testing.
Team & Project Support
- Assist senior System Engineers with infrastructure projects, migrations, and upgrades.
- Support technicians involved in diagnosing and correcting system-related issues.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for maintenance and remediation activities.
- Participate in research and evaluation of emerging systems, virtualization, storage, and security technologies.
Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in related information technology discipline (i.e. Computer Science) preferred, or equivalent years of work experience in analogous field
- Industry standard certifications preferred
Knowledge & Experience
- Two (2)+ years of experience in systems support, IT operations, or related roles
- Foundational knowledge of systems and networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, Azure, Cisco)
- Understanding of Server Storage technology (SAN/NAS)
- Security skills at the intermediate level

Work Environment
- Full-time role with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 remote) following an initial in-office period, based on business needs.
- Occasional overnight travel to company locations, including potential weekends and holidays
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours as needed
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer
- Ability to lift and move moderately heavy equipment (e.g., computers, peripherals)
