| Position Highlights |
The Department of Physiology is seeking a Research Laboratory Manager I to oversee the Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Mingyu Liang. The Liang Laboratory is focused on cardiovascular and kidney disease research. This position is responsible for the technical management of the research laboratory and ensuring a functional, safe, and effective research environment. The incumbent is responsible for assuring adequate training for all lab personnel in the use of all substances, chemicals, and equipment associated with ongoing lab projects to ensure adherence to University guidelines. The manager will conduct experiments, report results, prepare reports, participate in developing new technology, purchase lab supplies, and assist with grant preparation. | Duties & Responsibilities |
Laboratory Management:
- Manage and maintain laboratory in compliance with university policies.
- Contribute to the development and review of strategic and operational plans.
- Maintain, repair, and oversee the handling of laboratory equipment and supplies in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Organize and coordinate laboratory space.
- Develop, oversee, and/or implement research standard operating procedures, ensuring laboratory personnel and students maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operations.
Supervision:
- Assist in the interview process and selection of undergraduates, graduate students, and medical students for laboratory positions (volunteer and paid).
- On board new personnel on laboratory biological and chemical safety procedures.
- Facilitate communication and direct day-to-day work of students, including training and supervision on individual projects, providing guidance, and reviewing collected data.
- Communicate performance expectations.
Animal, cellular, and molecular Research:
- Schedule, coordinate, and perform animal research laboratory procedures, including surgeries and procedures with University Animal Care.
- Perform cellular and molecular research procedures.
- Ensure experiments comply with regulatory aspects of research programs, including safety and quality control.
- Write IACUC animal protocols, IRB human research protocols, and other regulatory protocols. Develop and optimize research methods.
Grant and Publication Assistance:
- Aid in designing research projects and assisting with grant writing and reviews.
- Review and edit laboratory reports, abstracts, and manuscripts.
Lab Purchases:
- Manage purchasing, maintenance, and handling of laboratory supplies.
- Recommend lab supply and equipment needs.

| Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant discipline such as biology or genomics, or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Three (3) years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
