Project Architect - Critical Facilities, Industrial, Government, and Life Sciences- Senior

Your Role

As a Senior Project Architect at Gensler, you will play a key role within our Critical Facilities, Industrial, Government and Life Sciences practice in our Columbus office. You'll collaborate closely with Practice Area Leaders, Design Directors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop thoughtful design solutions and carry projects through the construction documentation process.

This role offers the opportunity to work at a leading architectural firm in a growing market, collaborating with engaged and passionate project architects on impactful, complex projects. You will translate design concepts into clear, wellcoordinated 2D and 3D documentation, resolve technical challenges as they arise, and contribute to the successful delivery of missioncritical environments.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate across all phases of design for critical facilities, industrial, and life sciences projects, including programming, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation

  • Coordinate closely with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and regulatory agencies to meet overall project goals

  • Lead documentation coordination with structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, and other specialty consultants

  • Assist in resolving complex technical and design issues throughout the project lifecycle

  • Support management of client expectations, internal team communication, and consultant coordination

  • Provide project team leadership to deliver complete, accurate construction drawings, specifications, and material selections

  • Participate in construction administration, including submittal reviews, RFIs, and finish samples

  • Contribute to office initiatives, professional development efforts, and mentoring of junior staff

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from a professionally accredited program

  • Professional Licensure required

  • 10+ years of professional experience in architectural design and project delivery

  • 10+ years of professional experience in architectural design and project delivery

  • Experience with critical facilities projects such as data centers, command and control centers, or highperformance computing environments, or similarly complex project types (e.g., science and laboratory facilities, manufacturing, hightech, healthcare, aviation, or transportation)

  • Strong experience managing multiple aspects of client, team, and project coordination, including full consultant coordination

  • Experience working directly with contractors during documentation and construction

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical and design challenges

  • Experience with zoning and code analysis across multiple jurisdictions

  • Deep understanding of building construction methods and the ability to produce clear, accurate technical documentation

  • Familiarity with sustainable and universal design principles; experience with LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, or Net Zero projects preferred

  • Proficiency in Revit and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator); experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, VRay, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office is beneficial

  • Strong leadership, organization, communication, and relationshipmanagement skills
