THE POSITION

Are you passionate about horses and have experience working with them? If so, the thrilling realm of horse racing could be the perfect opportunity for you. The Department of Agriculture is currently looking for dedicated individuals to fill Livestock Worker positions at Presque Isle Downs Racetrack. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting Veterinarians by handling horses and meticulously recording sample data. Your contributions will be essential in upholding the standards set forth by the Pennsylvania State Horse Racing Commission, ensuring that all rules, regulations, and policies are adhered to. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Livestock Worker 1 role entails a variety of responsibilities centered around the care and management of assigned horses. This includes the vigilant monitoring of the animals to ensure their health and well-being, as well as the collection of urine samples for testing purposes. The worker is required to package these samples in accordance with established protocols to maintain their integrity and ensure accurate results. Additionally, meticulous record-keeping and documentation are essential components of this position, as they help track the health status and treatment of the horses. Beyond these specific tasks, the Livestock Worker 1 is also expected to assist with other essential farm activities, contributing to the overall operation and maintenance of the facility. This multifaceted role is crucial for supporting the health of the livestock and ensuring the smooth functioning of farm operations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • This is a temporary part-time position
  • Typical work schedule is 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday.
  • The work schedule is vendor controlled and may change as determined by the racing schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Experience in general farm work; and such training as may have been gained through completion of the eighth school grade; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Post Employment Requirement:

  • This position will require possession of a Commission Employee License once hired.

  • Experience working with and around horses
