Summary

Balfour Beatty is seeking an Application Manager to join our ever-growing IT team.

The Applications Manager is responsible for the operational management, security posture, and lifecycle governance of enterprise applications managed by the Applications Team. This role oversees application reliability, vulnerability remediation, patch compliance, and system lifecycle management while ensuring alignment with enterprise security policies, change management procedures, and business operational requirements.

The Applications Manager leads the Application Analysts responsible for supporting and maintaining enterprise platforms, coordinating remediation of application vulnerabilities, and ensuring applications remain secure, supported, and aligned with business needs. The role serves as the primary liaison between the Applications Team, Security, Infrastructure, and business stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Application Operations Management



  • Provide operational oversight for enterprise applications managed by the Applications Team.
  • Ensure systems remain supported, secure, and maintained according to vendor and internal security standards.
  • Establish operational procedures for application lifecycle management including upgrades, maintenance, and decommissioning.


Vulnerability and Patch Management



  • Oversee vulnerability identification and remediation activities for managed applications and operating systems.
  • Ensure vulnerabilities are tracked, prioritized, and remediated within defined timelines through coordination with Security and Infrastructure teams.


Team Leadership and Development



  • Lead, mentor, and develop Application Analysts responsible for enterprise application operations.
  • Define team responsibilities, set operational expectations, and support professional development.


Change Management and Governance



  • Ensure application maintenance and remediation activities follow established Change Management processes.
  • Coordinate CAB submissions when necessary and manage emergency remediation actions for critical vulnerabilities.


Vendor and Platform Management



  • Manage relationships with application vendors and service providers.
  • Coordinate patch releases, vulnerability advisories, product updates, and support escalations.


Operational Reporting and Risk Monitoring



  • Track and report application health, patch compliance, vulnerability remediation status, and operational metrics to IT leadership.


Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).

Minimum Requirements



  • 7+ years of experience supporting or managing enterprise business applications.
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience within an IT operations or applications environment.
  • Experience overseeing application lifecycle management including upgrades, patching, and remediation.
  • Experience managing vendor-supported enterprise platforms.
  • Strong understanding of vulnerability management and patch management practices.
  • Experience working with IT service management platforms such as FreshService or similar.



Preferred Requirements



  • Experience with Microsoft Defender Vulnerability Management.
  • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Experience with Patch My PC or similar patch deployment platforms.
  • Familiarity with ITIL or IT Service Management frameworks.
  • Experience working in complex enterprise application environments.

Working Conditions



  • Typical Physical Demands: Regularly use hands to manipulate tools, controls, phones and computer keyboard. Frequently stand, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, and stoop. Sit and stand to do clerical work. Regularly lift and move office supplies up to 50 lbs.
  • Typical Work Conditions: Work is performed in an office.
