Summary of Job Duties:The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health (COPH) Department of Health Policy and Management seeks a highly qualified candidate to fill a full-time, non-tenure track position in health administration. The primary responsibility for this position is to teach up to 6 courses each year in the CAHME-accredited MHA program; advise and mentor graduate students; serve on college and university committees; participate in program assessment and improvement activities; and help ensure the success of our MHA program, including career mentoring and professional development. This position has no soft money conditions, but engagement in research is encouraged.

The MHA program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). COPH was created in 2001 with a portion of the state's tobacco settlement funds and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. As part of the state's only academic health sciences center, the College enjoys close relationships with the UAMS Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Professions, as well as the Arkansas Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of Human Services. Opportunities for collaboration also exist within UAMS' centers of excellence: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging with its network of seven satellite Centers on Aging across the state, the Stephens Spine Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute, the Myeloma Institute, and the Translational Research Institute. UAMS also has a statewide presence through its eight Regional Programs sites (formerly called Area Health Education Centers) and a regional campus located in northwest Arkansas, offering ready access to populations across Arkansas. Opportunities also exist with other health care enterprises and universities across the state.

  • MHA or equivalent in healthcare administration, health finance, or related field, from a CAHME-accredited institution, plus at least 10 years of progressive management experience in healthcare management or

  • Doctoral Degree (i.e., PhD or DHA) in healthcare administration, health finance, or related field, plus at least 5 years of progressive management experience in healthcare management required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience and interest in using teaching methods that emphasize and encourage active learning.

  • Experience and interest in teaching in online formats.

  • Experience and interest in mentoring or coaching students or professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches up to 6 courses each year in the CAHME-accredited MHA program.

  • Advises and mentors graduate students.

  • Serves on college and university committees.

  • Participates in program assessment and improvement activities.

  • Helps ensure the success of our MHA program, including career mentoring and professional development.
