Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The employee is responsible for articulating the programs and services of Fayetteville State University to prospective students and their families. Additionally, the position is responsible for representing the university at high school visits, college night programs; coordinating group information sessions on campus as well as individual interviews; speaking before small and large groups; establishing good rapport with high school/college age students, high school counselors; working effectively with parents, alumni, faculty, and administrative staff. Also responsible for making admissions decisions and working with individual prospective students via correspondence e-mail and telephone. Extensive in-state and out-of-state travel required (minimum of 12 weeks per year). Weekend and evening work mandatory. Must have valid driver's license.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Admissions Counselor serves as a key representative of Fayetteville State University, responsible for promoting the institution to prospective students, families, and educators. This role involves conducting recruitment activities (on/off campus and virtual), providing detailed information about university programs, tools, and resources for student success, and guiding applicants through the admissions process. The Admissions Counselor makes admissions decisions, manages communications, and plays a critical role in achieving enrollment goals by encouraging accepted students to enroll.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in education, marketing, business, or communications and one year of experience in admissions, recruitment, or student services in a higher education environment.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Oral and written communication skills to present programs to large and small public audiences and interact individually with different populations.
  • Must be attentive to detail, have organizational skills, and have the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the enrollment process and associated cycles of tasks/responsibilities
  • Knowledge of college academic offerings and support systems
  • Must be detailed, multi-tasked, and goal-oriented.
  • Must be extremely flexible and have the ability to adapt to change.
  • Knowledge of financial options available to new students.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and customer skills.
  • Ability to process student information in the designated student info system.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
  • Must commit to exemplary customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree and two years of experience in student admissions, enrollment, or recruitment.
