Inova Central Laboratory is looking for a dedicated Histology Cytology Prep Technician to join their team at the Fairfax Medical Campus! This role will be PRN Day shift. 5am-1:30pm shift (no weekends).

Histology Cytology Prep Technician Job Responsibilities:

*Resolves problems or communicates unresolved problems to the staff/management while maintaining coworker confidentiality.

*Ensures cytology/histology request forms include all pertinent patient information, attending/ordering physician and correct anatomical site.

*Ensures proper stain levels are maintained, covers all staining solutions and mounting media when not in use and stores them at the proper temperature.

*Identifies and properly documents unacceptable specimens and properly disposes of specimens when completed.

*Obtains/processes pathology specimens while maintaining positive specimen identification, assisting histology technicians and maintaining laboratory equipment to ensure the quality preparation of all specimens.

*Process specimens in appropriate processors/programs to ensure maximum quality of specimen processing.

*Receives, processes and prepares histologic and cytologic specimens by using standard operating procedures to ensure quality test results for cytologist/pathologist diagnosis.

*Ensures final preparation products are free of procedural variance artifacts.

*May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma equivalent

  • Experience: 1 year Histology Cytology Prep Tech experience preferred
