Position Summary
The Gallery Supervisor operates as a hybrid role between the Security & Facilities and Visitor Experience teams. The Gallery Supervisor will provide coverage of the museum galleries and serve as an elevated floor authority when not on call in the Security Operations Center ( SOC). The incumbent will understand museum and department policy and procedures and be able to identify safety hazards and policy violations. The position is expected to work cooperatively with museum staff and assist with educational activities and special events.
This position will perform the essential duties as needed to ensure uninterrupted service, including but not limited to processing work orders, responding to alarms, and addressing routine facilities and security needs in the absence of other Security & Facilities team members. The position requires the availability to work nights, weekends, special events, and other times deemed necessary for operational readiness.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of security operations, lifesafety systems, and emergency response and facilities maintenance procedures

  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
  • Comfortable working in a publicfacing environment with staff, visitors, contractors, and first responders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in urgent or highstress situations.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and correct hazards.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, manuals, policies, and instructions.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and special events based on operational needs.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and move throughout museum spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift or carry items up to approximately 20 pounds as needed.

Security Operations & SOC Support

  • Monitors activities within the Security Operations Center (SOC), including surveillance feeds, alarm notifications, fire protection systems, and access control.
  • Supports security operations by assisting with shift coverage, documentation, and staff communications.
  • Manages visitor parking for daily operations and special events.
  • Prepares routine reports for review by the Security & Facilities Lead.
  • Provides operational support during assigned shifts, special events, exhibition openings, and afterhours functions, including evenings and weekends; escalates issues to supervisor as needed.
  • Serves as operational support during emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties in support of museum safety, security, and operations as needed.

Gallery Coverage & Patrolling

  • Covering assigned areas as floor supervisor.
  • Greet and observe visitors during gallery open hours.
  • Provide directions and respond to guest inquiries.
  • Promote museum programming.
  • Maintaining gallery rules while ensuring guests feel welcomed.
  • Communicate with the SOC by radio for incident and emergency response.
  • Opening and closing the museum, conducting regular patrols of the interior and exterior of the museum, and crowd management.
  • Providing escort for VIPs and contractors.
  • Performing other gallery-related tasks as needed.

Administrative Support

  • Documenting departmental activity, writing reports, sending emails, and making phone calls.
  • Accepting deliveries and making appropriate notifications to recipients.
  • Coordinating building maintenance work with facilities maintenance.
  • Conducting regular procedure training for gallery staff as needed.
  • Performing other administrative tasks as assigned.
