Primary Purpose of Department
The College of Computing and Informatics ( CCI) at UNC Charlotte is one of the most comprehensive and innovative computing colleges in the country. With over 150 faculty and staff and 5,100 students (3,400 undergraduate and 1,700 graduate) in Fall 2024, CCI graduates more than 1,400 Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. holders a year. The College is currently organized in four academic units: Department of Computer Science (CS), Department of Software and Information Systems ( SIS), Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics (BiG) , and the School of Data Science ( SDS). Located in Charlotte, the largest and fastest growing city in the Carolinas, CCI engages with the neighboring industries around common social, research, and development initiatives. Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the Assistant Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Computer Science is to perform duties in five main areas: student recruitment; program admissions; student advising; program administration; and program assessment and reporting.
Summary of Position Responsibilities

  • Advising & Student Success: Lead college-wide advising workflows, registration processes, orientations, and retention initiatives like the IA Cohort.
  • Program Administration & Student Services: Manage high-level administrative tasks (petitions, OPT/RCL forms), email triage, and flexible direct student advising.
  • Recruitment, Admissions & Enrollment: Oversee recruitment outreach, manage prospective student inquiries, and assist with application evaluations.
  • Program Improvement & Collaboration: Partner with leadership to optimize workflows, analyze success metrics, and align initiatives across college units.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience
  • Masters in Higher Education Administration or a related discipline, or master's in computing related field with at least two (2) year of experience in teaching, assessment and/or program administration.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in academic advising in higher education; preferably working with students in STEM areas.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and college/university boundaries in a university setting.
