Description

The Department of Medicine is seeking a motivatedStaff Research Associate I to join an NIH-funded laboratory in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine studying idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), sarcoidosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, and lung transplantation. This role will support research investigating how innate immune responses, including the complement system, influence injury and inflammation at mucosal surfaces such as the lung.

Responsibilities include conducting murine lung transplant model experiments and immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology studies, handling mice, working with human biospecimens, and maintaining the mouse breeding colony. The position also involves maintaining detailed experimental records, assisting with laboratory organization and equipment maintenance, ordering supplies, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures.

Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

Qualifications

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to set and meet internal deadlines, work independently, use judgment and make decisions
  • Knowledge of basic genetics, immunology, and biochemical principles.
  • Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuge, pH meter, PCR, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate concentrations of solutions as necessary.
  • Ability to carefully handle mice according to ARC guidelines.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory readiness for future experiments.
  • Ability to organize raw data into a comprehensible form.
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn and execute in vivo work in murine models of lung injury.
  • Willingness to work with human biospecimens with adequate safety precautions
  • Ability to prioritize and organize projects through multiple phases. Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on multiple tasks simultaneously with careful attention to detail, accuracy, completeness and thoroughness.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material with discretion, tact, sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and on weekends.

Preferred:


  • Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry, data sciences, or
    related fields
