The Software Engineer I, under close supervision, participates in the technical design and implementation of new products or enhancements.

This is a remote position, and candidates must live within approximately a 70-mile radius of our office locations in Allen, TX; Lenexa, KS; Springfield, MO; or Monett, MO.

All positions, regardless of location, may require an onsite interview or in-person onboarding requirement to verify your identity.

What you'll be responsible for:

  • Attending meetings or activities involving our financial partners and supporting our clients.
  • Learns and may participate in conducting product technical design and prototyping, software development, bug verification and resolution.
  • Learns, and may participate in system analysis and programming activities which may require research and timely, effective, and quality delivery of software into production.
  • Learns, and may participate in providing technical/engineering support for new and existing applications from code delivery until the retirement of the application.
  • Learns, and may participate in testing applications based on business requirements and industry best practices.
  • Learns best practices and standard guidance to be able to create and modify routine, low impact code.
  • May collaborate with QA team to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products.
  • Adheres to documented departmental and corporate standards.
  • Learns to conduct unit tests and integration tests to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of developed software. Debug and troubleshoot issues as they arise, providing timely resolutions.
  • May perform other job duties as assigned.

What you'll need to have:

  • Must have a minimum of 12 months of experience doing software development or programming experience from either an educational or professional setting.
  • Up to 10% travel required for this role.

What would be nice for you to have:

  • Learns to use professional concepts. Applies knowledge and basic problem-solving techniques to define and resolve problems. Determines a course of action based on guidelines. Works on problems of limited scope.
  • Learning to use professional concepts. Works on projects of limited scope and complexity. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations from which answers can be readily obtained
  • Basic knowledge in the following areas: Technical knowledge in software development methodologies
  • Application domain and industry knowledge
  • All phases of the development cycle including concept, technical design, prototype, code development, testing, release to QA and implementation
  • Awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans
  • Understanding of Software design and implementation
  • Research, analysis and problem resolution skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to undertake and prioritize multiple tasks and respond to changing requirements.
  • Ability and desire to increase knowledge of JHA products and services.
