Description

The Physical Security Internship is a learningfocused role designed to build foundational knowledge in corporate physical security while providing handson experience in daily security operations. In addition to structured development, the intern will support frontline security operations by serving as a welcoming first point of contact at the security desk, assisting with employee and vendor access, monitoring camera systems, performing routine security checks, and supporting departmental reporting and project work. These responsibilities provide practical exposure to physical security processes while ensuring a safe and secure environment for members, employees, and visitors.

The MSUFCU Internship Program is designed to support interns in developing career readiness competencies as defined by NACE. Throughout the internship program, interns will gain hands-on experience and enhance essential skills that prepare them for success and career growth. Interns will have the opportunity to develop competencies in career and self-development, communication, critical thinking, equity and inclusion, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology.

Work Location: Onsite; Headquarters in East Lansing, MI
Work Schedule:
Full-Time 40 hours/week; Hours will be scheduled based on student's schedule and physical security hours below.
Physical Security Hours of Operation -



  • Monday-Friday: 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm
  • Rotating Saturdays


Paid Hourly Internship: $18.00+/hour
Duration: Summer Semester beginning May 6th, with potential to continue into future semesters part-time.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite/hybrid/remote) and work location. MSU Federal Credit Union may or may not be able to accommodate temporary or permanent changes to work arrangements or allow employment outside the city and/or state of residency in which the new hire resides at the time of offered employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Engage in ongoing learning through classroom training, shadowing, and on-the-job development to build foundational skills in professional security operations.
  • Serve as the primary physical security presence at the front desk, greeting members, employees, and approved vendors as they enter the building.
  • Ensure all individuals entering the facility are properly vetted, assisting with employee and vendor badge creation and registration.
  • Support access control operations by learning how access groups are developed, assigned, and adjusted within MSUFCU's system.
  • Monitor security cameras daily, reporting issues to the Physical Security Program Director and assisting with pulling and saving requested footage.
  • Conduct routine perimeter and door checks throughout the shift to ensure a secure environment.
  • Assist with reviewing Unusual Activity Reports and respond appropriately under guidance from the Physical Security Program Director.
  • Participate in departmental audits, including ID loaner reviews, noactivity reports, code audits by location, and camera outage checks.
  • Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements:



  • High school diploma required
  • This position requires active enrollment as a student pursuing a degree in law enforcement, security, criminal justice, or other related field.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside or outside of an office area.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
  • This position requires onsite presence at the employee's assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
