Senior Product Designer (Senior Consultant, Experience & Design)

In this role, you will lead design efforts within a cross-functional Agile team, driving the end-to-end design process from user research and usability evaluation through interaction design, prototyping, and implementation. You will partner closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to translate user needs, technical constraints, and business goals into intuitive solutions for complex workflows. This role applies advanced user-centered design practices, produces clear and scalable design documentation, and ensures all solutions meet federal accessibility standards including Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA.

At Fearless, the Senior Consultant combines expertise in Content Design, Content Strategy, Product Design, Service Design, User Research, and UX leadership.This role will possess the necessary skills at an advanced level of proficiency for setting the vision, strategy, and systems that guide cross-functional design teams in creating scalable, impactful, and user-centered solutions.The role requires a balance of strategic foresight, design mentorship, and hands-on expertise to deliver high-quality products and services that meet user, customer, and organizational needs.

Your Responsibilities in This Role:

  • Lead UX strategy and collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to define user needs, product requirements, and design direction that align with program goals.
  • Drive alignment and build consensus across cross-functional teams by clearly communicating design rationale, research insights, and solution approaches to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Plan, lead, and synthesize user research and usability testing activities to generate actionable insights and guide product design decisions.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and interaction designs using Figma to support iterative product discovery and delivery within Agile development cycles.
  • Design intuitive user experiences for complex form-based workflows, including submission, validation, and error-handling flows that reduce user burden and improve completion success rates.
  • Own and champion accessibility across the product, ensuring all designs meet Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Establish and maintain clear design documentation and artifacts to support developer implementation, knowledge transfer, and long-term product maintainability.
  • Plan and facilitate participatory and iterative design activities including user interviews, usability studies, design workshops, and collaborative design sessions with stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Serve as the design lead within the delivery team, mentoring designers and cross-functional team members on user-centered design best practices.
  • Define and evolve design standards, processes, and practices, championing design quality and driving consistent UX outcomes across the product.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams throughout development, ensuring designs are implemented effectively and align with technical constraints and product goals.
  • Guide the team in establishing and measuring UX success metrics, using data and user insights to continuously improve the user experience.

Work Location

This role operates in a hybrid work environment. Team members are expected to be on-site in Washington, DC approximately two to three days per week to support collaboration with federal stakeholders, with the remaining time performed remotely.

Work Experience

Project Specific Qualifications:

  • Proven experience leading design for cross-functional product teams, serving as the primary design authority responsible for research, interaction design, and delivery of user-centered solutions across the full product lifecycle.
  • Strong experience applying user-centered design methodology and guiding teams in the application of these practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting user research and usability testing and synthesizing findings into strategic design recommendations and product improvements.
  • Proficiency creating wireframes and interactive prototypes in Figma to support iterative design, validation, and collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Experience designing components and interactions that align with front-end implementation patterns and design systems, with familiarity with Figma Dev Mode and developer handoff workflows to support efficient design-to-development collaboration.
  • Experience designing for Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance and ensuring accessibility is integrated into design decisions throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience designing interaction patterns for complex workflows and data-driven applications such as form-based submissions, validation workflows, or multi-step user processes.
  • Ability to produce and maintain clear design documentation and specifications that support engineering implementation and ensure consistent UX across product features and releases.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and stakeholders within Agile development environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate design concepts, research insights, and design rationale effectively to diverse audiences and influence product and technical decision-making.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining design systems at scale across multiple products or teams to promote consistency and efficiency in product development.
  • Experience designing user experiences in financial services or regulatory environments or other complex, compliance-driven systems is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $91,554

Salary Midpoint: $119,020

Maximum Salary: $146,486

Hiring Range for Role: $91,554 - $140,000

*This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
