Purpose
The Director of Field Operations is responsible for the safe, profitable, and high-quality execution of all field operations across assigned markets and projects within Teichert Energy & Utilities Group (TEU). This role ensures projects are delivered in accordance with design, specification, budget and schedule while strengthening customer relationships and expanding market presence.
The Director provides strategic leadership to Superintendents and field teams driving operational excellence in safety, production, workforce planning, financial performance, and compliance. This position also leads the development of scalable systems and processes to support multi-discipline construction operations and ensure sustained growth and performance.

Focus & Scope
Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below:

Operational Leadership & Project Execution
  • Provide strategic oversight in the planning, direction of construction and field operations for assigned TEU markets and projects; Renewables, Pipelines, Utilities, etc.
  • Establish and maintain construction standards, specifications, budgets, schedules, and performance expectations consistent with TEU and industry best practices
  • Lead teams of General Superintendents, Superintendents, and field operations teams
  • Oversee manpower planning, forecasting, and compliance; craft ratios, apprenticeship compliance, skilled & trained workforce requirements, etc.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with design, specifications, contract requirements, budget, and schedule
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on construction methodologies, quality standards, plan interpretation, and field execution strategies
  • Responsible for optimization of equipment utilization and capital investment planning in alignment with Division Budget
  • Optimization of supply chain management and logistics, to ensure on-time delivery of material required to execute project schedules
Safety & Risk Management
  • Actively partners with TEU Safety & OQ on development, implementation, and adherence of safety policies and procedures in support of a zero-injury culture
  • Proactively identifies and communicates safety improvements and hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions to maintain a safe and healthy work environment across TEU field operations
  • Participates in safety meetings, training sessions, and field observations
  • Drives culture of safety and accountability throughout all field operations
  • Ensures on-site personnel comply with project procedures, safety requirements, and work rules
Workforce Development & Organizational Leadership
  • Direct, lead, and supervise activities of General Superintendents, Superintendents, and field leadership
  • Develop staff through performance evaluation, coaching, mentoring and structured training initiatives
  • Ensures field operations personnel meet evolving business needs, maximizing performance, accountability and motivation of the workforce while maintaining morale
  • Builds leadership bench and succession planning within field operations
  • Promotes accountability, extreme ownership and high-performance standards
Internal & External Relationship Management
  • Acts as a liaison between internal staff and external customers by conveying information, having a deep understanding of projects, and working through possible challenges and risks.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with external customers, agencies, contractors and industry partners
  • Participates in industry related associations and trade groups that benefit the work practices, knowledge and/or business network of TEU
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of TEU's plans for future growth while continually striving to improve processes and practices
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Service as a strategic partner to business unit leaders across TEU and others within the Teichert family of companies to align operational priorities with business objectives
  • Coach, mentor, and support leaders and teams on continuous improvement methodologies and change management
  • Facilitate collaboration across business units, ensuring best practices are shared and adopted consistently
  • Represent the organization professionally with external partners, vendors, and regional stakeholders to support operational growth, expansion, and reputation.
  • Serve as contributing member of industry organizations to steer regulations, policies, and best practices for the industry. Strive to engage in committees and boards that are value add to TEU continued growth and diversification.

  • Vice President & General Manager, Estimators, Area Managers, General Superintendents, Project Managers, Superintendents, Cost Analysts, Project Engineers, Administrative Staff, Materials, Mobile Equipment, Teichert Services Group, DTS, and other business units

Role Qualifications & Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management (or related field), or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience
Experience and Industry Expertise:
  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience within construction, utilities, or energy sectors
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior and strategic leadership experience
  • Experience supporting organizational growth and scaling multi-state operations

Specific Job Requirements:
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background investigation
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with executive presence, influence, and credibility across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to preserve confidential and proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest
  • Strong working knowledge of organizational policies, standard operating procedures, and enterprise-wide systems
  • In depth knowledge of managing union and administrative personnel, managing personnel issues, and operating in a union environment
  • Knowledge of multi-state construction operations
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and change management principles
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards and best practices, including utility regulatory environment, renewables, and compliance requirements
  • Regional and frequent overnight, including out of state, travel required

Equipment Used, Physical Demands, and Work Environment

Equipment Used:
  • General office equipment, telephone, automobile, personal protective equipment (safety glasses, hearing protection, gas detection equipment) when visiting utility construction sites and substations.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Physical: Sitting for long periods working on computer or attending meetings. Utility site visits require walking on uneven ground, around energized equipment, and exposure to extreme temperature and/or humidity. Some lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Ability to work around utility infrastructure including gas lines and electrical equipment.
  • Work Environment: Typical office environment with adequate temperatures and lighting, low levels of noise. Demands of meeting tight utility project deadlines and regulatory timelines. Exposed to utility construction site conditions which can include loud noise, dust, fumes, energized electrical equipment, natural gas facilities, and extreme weather conditions. May work various hours including emergency response situations, early mornings, evenings, and weekends during utility outages or critical infrastructure projects.

BASE SALARY RANGE:
$225,000.00 - $290,000.00
The range displayed reflects the range the company reasonable expects to pay for the position. The actual base salary is subject to variation due to the role, level, geographic location, relevant education, training, or experience, among other factors.
