Get to Know Your Team:

  • Portneuf Medical Center (PMC) is a nationally recognized healthcare leader with 205 beds, serving as the region's Level II Trauma Center and tertiary referral hospital and is home to the Portneuf Heart and Vascular Institute, Portneuf Cancer Center, Portneuf Medical Group and Portneuf Air Rescue. PMC has a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, an adult intensive care unit, nationally recognized orthopedic services, a full suite of cardiac care, Center of Excellence recognized surgeons, imaging, primary and specialty care.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible to ensure that staff understands and exhibits the basic principles of maintaining a surgical field, handle equipment appropriately and keep informed of manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and sterilizing equipment between cases.
  • Acts as a technical resource in a leadership role to address clinical performance, outcomes, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction and costs containment.
  • Works in a collaborative role to facilitate patient safety. Ensures that techs that work in their service line are following JACHO requirements.
  • Prepares the OR before each procedure according to departmental policies. Responsible for the daily organization of instrumentation required for their services, including equipment that may be on loan, trial or consignment. Assists with ordering and procurement of special service equipment and supplies, in a timely manner to ensure proper sterilization.
  • Responsible for the education and follow up on appropriate implant handling and documentation.
  • Assists in planning educational activities and staff development programs. Reports any performance issues immediately to the OR Manager. Documents any performance issues identified.
  • Maintains sterile procedure according to policy. Passes instruments, sponges, and sutures to the surgeon using proper technique. Maintains suturing ability, under the direction of the physician.
  • Maintains physician preference cards. Pulls case carts correctly. Acts as a resource for other departments in emergency situation. Demonstrated clinical/technical competency.
  • Ability to work varied shifts and takes clinical call.
  • This position will primarily over the ENT, Ophthalmology, and Pain Management Service Lines.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician course or equivalent.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

  • Previous OR experience.

  • Knowledge and skill of the function and handling of supportive/adaptive patient equipment and devices

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Certified Surgical Tech certification.
