Job Description

Position Overview

ThePublic Policy Operations Coordinatorserves as the operational backbone of Washington Gas's Public Policy and Advocacy team. This role supports internal processes, prepares executive-ready materials, assists with public policy initiatives, and manages logistics for advocacy activities.

The coordinator will work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality written and presentation materials in a fast-paced, deadlinedriven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Public Policy & Executive Support

  • Draft memoranda, briefing materials, talking points, and PowerPoint presentations for senior leadership.
  • Prepare and organize materials for board presentations, executive meetings, and internal briefings.
  • Support documentation needs for legislative hearings, testimony, and regulatory proceedings.
  • Assist in tracking policy issues and coordinating internal discussions to support development of the company's Public Policy Agenda.

Operations & Internal Coordination

  • Serve as the coordination hub for the Public Policy and Advocacy team, tracking deadlines and deliverables.
  • Organize meetings with internal business units to gather information and support cross-functional alignment.
  • Schedule and support meetings with external contract lobbyists.
  • Assist with onboarding new team members, coordinating equipment, system access, and resources.
  • Maintain internal distribution lists, calendars, and team documentation.

PAC Administration & Political Compliance

  • Support administration of the Washington Gas Political Action Committee (PAC), including membership tracking and event coordination.
  • Assist with PAC Board and committee meetings, annual meetings, membership campaigns, and special events.
  • Maintain PAC membership documentation and support quarterly audits of payroll deduction forms.
  • Process PAC membership initiation or discontinuation requests.
  • Work with the PAC Treasurer on compliance reporting, contribution documentation, and recordkeeping.
  • Assist with PAC communications, including newsletters and website updates.

Corporate Political Giving & External Engagement

  • Support tracking and coordination of corporate political contributions and compliance activities.
  • Coordinate logistics for external stakeholder events, including invitations, RSVPs, agendas, materials, and on-site support.
  • Design and produce basic marketing materials such as flyers, invitations, and newsletters in alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate contact and email distribution lists.
  • Assist with lobbyist reporting and tracking requirements.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred (associate's degree considered with relevant experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a corporate, government, nonprofit, or public policy environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, government affairs, or corporate advocacy.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience producing polished presentations and written materials.
  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft or similar enterprise systems preferred.

We offer a competitive salary range of $62,900 to $87,275 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
