The Advanced Engineering Division of Savannah River National Laboratory's (SRNL) Weapons Production Technology Directorate (WPT) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Supervisor for the Machine Shop as part of the Advanced Manufacturing and Design organization. This management position provides oversight of personnel who perform machining, fabrication, and welding. Candidate will demonstrate technical and business acumen including experience with safe and secure mission execution, work planning, managing and leading employees to deliver high performance results, fostering and maintaining a collaborative work environment, assisting senior leadership in the development of strategic growth plans, external customer engagement, and a general understanding of DOE challenges and technical operations.

Achieves goals by organizing, planning, coordinating, directing, guiding, and managing the work of others. Management responsibilities include personnel management, time & attendance approvals, performance appraisals, compensation recommendations, deploying resources effectively, budget, training and development. Position focus is on managing others and applying management skills to achieve strategic objectives. Results are primarily achieved through the work of others and typically depend on the manager's ability to influence and negotiate with others where formal authority is not held.

  • Manages one or more generally homogeneous teams; adapts organization plans and priorities to meet short-term service and/or operational objectives.
  • Guided by policies and organizational plan, impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality and timeliness of objectives.
  • Applies understanding of business and how own area integrates with others to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Identifies and solves technical and operational problems; understands and recognizes broader impact across the organization.
  • Adapts organizational plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Guides and influences others either internally or externally to adopt a different point of view.
  • Decisions and problem solving are guided by policies, procedures and organization plan: receives guidance from manager.
  • Develops and maintains technical capabilities aligned with business needs for the organization.
  • Provides quality performance feedback to staff members, support professional and personal development goals, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Leads by example by practicing the SRNL core values of Integrity, Innovation, Service and Teamwork.
  • Coaches staff regarding Battelle Practices - The Safe Conduct of Research.
  • Holds regular toolbox meetings promoting good communication.
  • Recruits and hires quality & capable machinists.
  • Displays effective interpersonal and communication skills, which include the ability to engage in technical conversations with all levels of staff, an ability to delegate tasks to staff and administrators, and ability to interact with all levels of laboratory management.
  • Assesses circumstances using experience and a variety of information gathered to help the group deliver value and improve operations.
  • Works safely with particular attention to quality.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A.S. in Machine Tool Technology or Equivalent with 15 yrs. relevant experience

  • Experience with MasterCAM

  • For ability to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff performing design and development.

  • Successful customer relationship management.

  • Strong interpersonal communications both oral and written, along with problem solving skills.

  • Active DOE Clearance
