Position Title: Design Engineer

Wage: Based on Experience

Our recruiting firm is partnering with a well-established manufacturing organization in Port Washington, WI to identify an experienced Design Engineer with a strong background in metal stamping, fabrication, and tooling design. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity with a stable employer that offers hands-on engineering work, collaborative culture, and long-term career potential.

Position Overview:

The Design Engineer will support both new and existing products by developing tooling, fixtures, gages, and manufacturing components used in a high-precision stamping and fabrication environment. This individual will work closely with internal engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure robust designs and manufacturable solutions.

Design Engineer Responsibilities:

- Interpret part prints, engineering changes, models and specifications

- Design progressive metal stamping and slide-forming tools

- Develop tools for sheet metal punching, forming, and fabrication processes

- Create gages, staging fixtures and comparator traces for inspection support

- Design assembly and welding fixtures to improve production accuracy and efficiency

- Select materials based on customer prints and technical requirements

- Maintain project timelines and communicate design progress

- Provide feedback regarding tolerances, manufacturability and design improvements

- Support engineering, tooling, and production teams during development and pilot builds

- Participate in APQP activities throughout product launch

- Assist with additional design needs as required

Qualifications for Design Engineer:

- Associate degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or a related technical field

- At least two years of design experience and three years of experience in metal stamping, fabrication or manufacturing (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

- Strong organization and documentation skills

- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred)

- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

- Familiarity with Logopress3 and APQP processes is a plus

- Strong understanding of tooling and metal fabrication processes

- Ability to interpret complex technical drawings and requirements

- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to support hands-on engineering functions

- Collaborative working style with cross-functional teams

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-focused environment
