Application Window Open date: March 5, 2026 Next review date: Friday, Mar 20, 2026 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Final date: Sunday, Sep 5, 2027 at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) Position description Junior Specialist - Department of Surgery The Division of Transplant Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking to fill a Junior Specialist position. The position is intended for an individual with a strong interest in synthesizing, analyzing, presenting, and publishing study findings. This position will report to the Clinical Research Supervisor and work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. John Roberts. Responsibilities include collecting data from operative notes, creating data visualizations of UNOS, OPTN, and internal databases, and participating in the review and writing of protocols to ensure institutional review board approval within University compliance. This position will work closely with the Principal Investigator to support the management and coordination of tasks of multiple liver transplant research studies, acting as an intermediary between the research team, physicians, and collaborators while overseeing data collection and management. This position may also interact with Spanish speaking patients, so candidates who are fluent in Spanish are preferred. This position may be responsible for creating, cleaning, updating, and managing databases and comprehensive datasets and reports. The Specialist will utilize Excel, Python, or other data visualization software to draw conclusions from external databases and internal study results. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Box and Windows, have effective oral and written communication, good organizational and interpersonal skills, and excellent analytical thinking. Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a deadline-oriented environment. Applicants with an interest in surgery, especially abdominal transplant, are strongly preferred. Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must have a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in biology, biochemistry, biophysics or a related field or at least 4 years of experience with laboratory experience, at the time of hire.
