The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Certified Medical Assistant serves as an integral part of the Perioperative team and performs routine clinical tasks in order to help the nurses and physicians and other health practitioners deliver patient care efficiently.

The duties of Certified Medical Assistant shall vary from time to time depending on the surgical specialty and volume of cases and the department assigned- PAT, SDS, PACU, and OR.

Administrative duties: include, but are not limited to, answering telephones, greeting patients and data entry

Clinical duties: include, but are not limited to, preparing patients for surgery and assisting the nurse and physician during the pre-op and post-op stages

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least one-year experience in a medical-related field
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
  • Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and Internet knowledge, familiarity with office equipment

Preferred:

  • 1 year experience in surgery setting

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time (FT)

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain standard of care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and department
  • Provide supportive and caring environment for patients and address needs in conjunction with nursing team
  • Greet patients as needed in the main lobby and escort to same day surgery
  • Place patients in their rooms and give instructions re prep for surgery or procedure
  • Ensure falls prevention measures are in place at all times
  • Assist patients as needed with toileting, dressing and undressing
  • Assist patients with pre-op surgical site infection prevention measures
  • Take vital signs and ensure results transfer to Epic
  • Draw blood per physician order
  • Perform point of care pregnancy testing
  • Perform point of care blood glucose testing, ensure glucometer is cleaned before and after each patient encounter, check strips for expiration before testing
  • Perform Quality assurance on glucometer daily
  • Assist patients with their belongings, placing them in secure lockers and retrieving them post procedure
  • If required, bring patients by stretcher to OR/Endo/PACU for procedures
  • Assist patients with post-operative eating and drinking as needed
  • Care for post-operative patients whether it occurs in Same Day surgery or PACU
  • Aids with ambulation and into wheelchair as needed
  • Escorts patient in wheelchair and family post procedure to lobby
  • Stock rooms as needed
  • Communicate stock and supply needs with central supply, dietary and linen
  • Ensure hallways are uncluttered with items at one side and move items on wheels to designated storage areas
