Job Description Summary
PBS Digital Studios (PBSDS) focuses on developing original online series and content strategies that position PBS as a leading global source of entertaining and enlightening video content, in support of the PBS vision of being the most trusted, valued, and supported media organization in America. Our dozen+ ongoing PBS Digital Studios series - including Be Smart, Eons, and Space Time; and themed channels Terra, Storied, Origins, and Voices - receive approximately 50 million average YouTube views per month, and have amassed over 5 billion views to date. As part of PBS' mission to meet audiences where they are, PBSDS also publishes original content to social media platforms and has launched several podcasts.

The PBSDS Intern will assist the Digital Studios team in managing day-to-day editorial, operations, and audience development activities for Digital Studios shows and channels on YouTube, podcasts, social media, and PBS-owned platforms. During the internship, the intern will actively contribute to exciting projects that help shape our online storytelling across YouTube and social media. At the end of the internship, the intern will have the opportunity to pitch a digital series idea to the Digital Studios team as part of their capstone project, showcasing the skills and knowledge gained throughout their internship experience.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the programming, operations, and audience development teams to:

    • Review and provide input on show pitches, social video scripts, and YouTube episode scripts.

    • Support with the migration of our Airtable tracking system by updating files, titles, links, tags, etc.

    • Brainstorm and create engaging posts/videos for PBSDS' social media accounts.

    • Create engaging content for the YouTube Community tab across our channels (memes, polls, graphics, etc)

    • Support partnerships between PBSDS shows and network-wide initiatives, including major PBS broadcast tie-ins and the launch of new shows.

    • Write engaging "one-pagers" about our upcoming series to distribute to our Communications teams.

    • Maintain and update project files, and YouTube channel graphics (banners, logos, etc.)

    • Assist in gathering YouTube and social media analytics to assist with reporting and identifying performance trends that help inform our digital strategy.

    • Support the creation of YouTube thumbnails and offer creative input on video titles and packaging to help improve performance.

    • Assist DS team with audits related to digital media landscape and/or performance.

    • Be a flexible team player, ready to take on creative projects and other tasks.

Requirements for success:

  • 1-2 years' experience working with a digital team at a media organization or nationally recognized brand(s)

  • Experience with project management and the ability to manage multiple deadlines - Skilled writer with effective communication skills

  • Experience producing or editing educational or fact-based digital videos across YouTube, social media, or other platforms.

  • Must be knowledgeable about YouTube and have an interest in building and engaging with audiences.

  • Interest in learning about data, analytics, and understanding metrics for growth.

  • Experience using editing platforms like Canva, Adobe Premiere, Creative Suite, etc - Experience working with science or educational content is a plus

  • Familiarity with PBS Digital Studios programming is a plus

Additional Information:

  • Time Commitment: June 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026

  • Compensation: Undergraduate students receive $15/hour, graduate students receive $17/hour
