Purpose of the Position

The Cylinder Preparation Lead Technician "Cyl Prep Tech Lead" is responsible for supporting/leading the safe, efficient, and cost-effective cylinder building, preparation and testing operation of the of the Coolbaugh LaserGas Electronics and Specialty Gas production facility. The Cyl Prep Tech Lead is responsible for ensuring that the Cyl Prep department operates in compliance with all Messer internal requirements in a safe and efficient manner and reports to the Operations Manager. It is expected that the Cyl Prep Tech Lead will lead a high-performance team with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement to support Messer's overall business structure while meeting customer needs. The Cyl Prep Tech Lead will oversee the operations and process technicians of the cylinder preparation department which includes new steel, valve and component inventory management and the key processes including blasting, polishing, rinsing/drying, valving, engraving, gas washing, leak checking and oven bake-out processes. The Cyl Prep Tech Lead will also function as a Plant Maintenance Technician and meet all required training and qualifications required to support the adjoined plant maintenance department.

Principal Responsibilities

* Responsible for safe, reliable, and successful operation of Cylinder Preparation (Cyl Prep) processes utilized in the building, cleaning, and certification of new cylinder packages

* Lead, motivate, and manage a team of Cyl Prep technicians "techs" to achieve individual and organizational goals and accomplish the requirements (physical and administrative) imposed on the department by the Operations Manager

* Provide day-to-day leadership, technical assistance and supervision for the Cyl Prep techs

* Support Cyl Prep technicians in cross training of other Cyl Prep techs with less experience on both process and data management requirements

* Independently operate and maintain proficiency on all Cyl Prep processes

* Effectively perform various SAP Transactions to maintain Inventory stocking levels and process the Cylinder "Prep Par" production work order documentation

* Become effective using the SAP-PM maintenance management software program tools to schedule, administer, and close-out routine and established preventative maintenance tasks and urgent maintenance and repair requests as a backup for the plant maintenance supervisor

* Collect and record basic process data to ensure process optimization and product quality

* Drive Cyl Prep department safety initiatives (Golden Rules, Safer Together, etc.)

* Coordinate work transfer efficiently and effectively with production department

* Assist in the development and improvement of Cyl Prep methods and documentation

* Participate in development of new and modified Cyl Prep production processes

* Interface effectively with Plant Management, Engineering, Safety and Quality Team members regarding production, safety, and quality concerns or issues

* Manage supplies for Cyl Prep department and assure on time delivery to prevent shortage of needed packaging and assembly materials

* Perform other plant inventory management and operational processes as assigned by the Operations Manager

* Function as an assisting maintenance technician member of the plant Maintenance Department supporting general maintenance and repair as assigned by the Engineering and Maintenance Manager in coordination with Operations Manager within qualified experience.

* Maintain trainings, qualifications and certifications necessary, both internally and externally, needed to support the goals and needs of the maintenance team at Messer expense

* Adhere to all company policies, safety, and standard operating procedures-report promptly to Operations Manager any technicians not in compliance

* Troubleshoot systems and report to Engineering and Maintenance firsthand observations and conclusions

* Attend scheduled production and training meetings as directed by the Operations Manager

* Attend scheduled maintenance and engineering meetings as directed by the Engineering and Maintenance Manager in coordination with Operations Manager

* Positively support and demonstrate safety and quality procedural compliance to keep team focused and prevent complacency

* Proactively identify risks to safety and quality: communicate promptly to the Operations Manager; drive to completion mitigation actions and process improvements

Required Qualifications

* Minimum 2 years of process gas cylinder filling experience

* Minimum 2 years of mechanical operations or maintenance experience
