Job Summary

The Caltech Center for Technology and Management Education (CTME) provides professional and executive training for technology-driven organizations and individuals. In a typical year, CTME will work with 15-20 organizations to develop customized training programs to support technology transfer and the adoption of new business approaches. CTME also offers over 50 public classes. Courses are provided on campus, at corporate sites, online via Zoom and Teams, and on-demand through our Learning Management System. CTME works with Institute faculty and staff, other university partners, industry training providers, and consultants to develop, deploy, and evaluate this training.

The Database Engineer reports directly to the CTME Executive Director and is responsible for the development, deployment, and maintenance of the organization's essential technology stack. This individual acts as the primary architect and administrator for the Student Information System (SIS) database, ensuring its integrity for critical financial, marketing, and scheduling reporting. Beyond core database management, the role encompasses a wide range of operational technology duties, including managing the Moodle site, overseeing the CTME website and registration processes, and providing comprehensive IT support for instructors and participants.

Essential Job Duties
  • Develops, deploys, integrates, and maintains CTME technologies, including SIS database, website, LMS, and CMS.
  • Develops and maintains CTME SIS database systems, performs data entry, and generates reports for marketing, financial, and scheduling purposes.
  • Schedules CTME public courses and maintains CTME website, including course/program pages, registration processes, and instructor biographies.
  • Manages Moodle site operations, enrolls participants, uploads course lectures to YouTube and online learning platforms, and monitors course recordings.
  • Provides IT support for CTME staff, instructors, and participants regarding account access, course materials, and digital classroom technologies.
  • Manages Zoom and WebEx setup, maintenance, and attendance reporting.
  • Supports social media scheduling, posts, and analysis, and develops Google Analytics performance reports.
  • Manages course product types, program categories, identifiers, pricing, payments, descriptions, and delivery information.
  • Handles CMS/content updates in collaboration with program managers and coordinators.
  • Prepares and sends marketing emails to CTME contacts via GroupMail.
  • Maintains CTME tech assets (laptops, TVs, conference room cameras, projectors) and provides on-campus classroom and audio-video setup.
  • Procures Cameo licenses for MBSE classes and maintains/troubleshoots CTME shared drives.
  • Coordinates makeup assignments with instructors and participants, and moves completed courses to archive.
  • Maintains high security standards to protect CTME proprietary information and client documents.
  • Coordinates development and deployment of new technologies and automation methods to enhance business workflow and team efficiency.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent.
  • Proven skills and vision in database design, development, and maintenance.
  • Experience in supporting technical teams and complex business systems requirements and processes.
  • Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments involving sensitive and confidential information across multiple initiatives.
  • Demonstrated skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, recommending policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Proven experience with leading complex projects using standard management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice and adhere to organizational values.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Industry experience in a technological sector.
  • Master's degree or master's courses completed in a related field.

Hiring Range

$80,000 to $115,000 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
