Description

If you're pursuing a degree in Accounting, Auditing, or Finance and want to gain experience in federal audit requests and internal quality reviews, we'd love to have you join our team! This internship is designed to build a strong foundation in auditing and compliance, including how to interact with federal auditors and developing effective communication skills. The intern will collaborate closely with the Audit Liaison, Accounting, and Procurement teams.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Support responses to federal audit requests by tracking and organizing audit requests, retrieving documentation from APL business systems, coordinating with staff, assisting with the review of draft responses, and performing cost reconciliations and related analyses.
* Assist with unallowable cost reviews by developing an understanding of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and APL policies and applying those requirements to selected transactions as part of internal quality reviews.
* Provide support in drafting new or updated APL guidance, with a focus on ensuring clarity and usability for staff without a background in government contracting.
* Perform special compliance projects or analyses as assigned by the Audit Liaison Supervisor.


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the role if you:
* Are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Auditing.
* Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
* Are a highly motivated self-starter with strong analytical and organizational skills.
* Are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
* Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Can work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
* Demonstrate the ability to complete tasks accurately, thoroughly, and on schedule.
*To access APL's facilities and networks, U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status is required, subject to applicable laws

You will exceed our minimum qualifications if you:
* Have familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
* Have experience leveraging AI tools to develop practical solutions that enhance day-to-day procurement or compliance activities.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
