Molex is a global leader in the optical industry, renowned for delivering high-performance, field-proven wavelength management solutions. Our expertise spans components, modules, and integrated line-cards, with a strong focus on innovation, miniaturization, and manufacturing automation. Our advanced optical, mechanical, electrical, and software design capabilities support the evolving needs of high-density, high-bandwidth, and flexible optical networks across telecom, datacom, hyperscale datacenters, artificial intelligence, and supercomputing.

The Laser Test Engineer will own the measurement and test-automation stack for laser diode or packed LD performance validation: LIV, spectrum, kink behavior, FBG interactions, RIN/noise, and back-reflection sensitivity. Builds fixtures and methods that are repeatable, calibrated, and production-scalable.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and maintain test methods for LIV, wavelength/spectrum, kink detection, RIN PSD, far-field divergence, and back-reflection sensitivity across temperature for III-V edge-emitter lasers (EEL), as well as in fiber-coupled packages
  • Design fixtures for FBG interaction tests (lock range, pulling, stability) and for ORL sweeps with calibrated reflectance
  • Scope out and procure life test racks for high-power active devices and manage life test data
  • Create automated test scripts (Python/LabVIEW/Matlab) and data pipelines for raw trace capture and report generation
  • Define measurement uncertainty budgets and calibration plans; ensure traceability of key instruments
  • Support incoming inspection, engineering characterization, and production test debug
  • Partner with reliability and design teams to root-cause noise/kink/instability issues and verify fixes

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • BS/MS in EE/Optics/Physics or related; 3+ years in laser/photonic test engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience hands-on skills with OSA, wavemeter, power meters, optical elements, photodiodes/TIAs, far field, spectrum analyzers, thermal control and life test equipment
  • Experience with LIV, far-field divergence characterization of laser diodes
  • Experience controlling back-reflection and polarization effects in optical setups (circulators, isolators, APC connectors)
  • Experience translating system-level EDFA requirements into testable module-level specifications
  • Experience scripting/automation ability for data acquisition and analysis.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Experience with laser modules testing
  • Experience with PM fiber handling, PER testing, and polarization stability characterization
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test development and SPC/guard-banding
