Our experienced team partners with Private Wealth Advisors to deliver bespoke financing solutions, including new loans, refinancings, restructuring, and holistic liability management. The platform supports a wide range of collateral types-from marketable securities and alternative investments to more tailored solutions involving private assets. All team members are employees of Goldman Sachs Bank USA.

Role Overview

The Vice President, Capital Markets (Securities-Based Lending) will play a critical role in delivering market-based financing solutions to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients. The role partners closely with Private Wealth Advisors, underwriting, and risk partners to originate, structure, and manage sophisticated securities-based lending solutions while maintaining a strong control and risk discipline. The position sits within the Private Bank's Capital Markets platform, reflecting the team's market-facing, solutions-oriented approach to lending.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive securities-based lending activity by developing and maintaining strong partnerships with Private Wealth Advisors and coverage teams.
  • Identify and execute growth opportunities across the Capital Markets lending platform, including collaboration with Wealth Management and Ayco partners.
  • Advise clients and advisors on tailored securities-based lending solutions aligned to client objectives, market conditions, and firm risk appetite.
  • Structure securities-based loans on a platform-agnostic basis (Regulation U and Regulation T), secured by U.S. and non-U.S. listed securities, including affiliate and restricted securities where appropriate.
  • Participate in prospect and client meetings to position Goldman Sachs Private Bank's Capital Markets capabilities and address complex financing needs.
  • Act as a first line of risk control by pre-screening lending opportunities and structuring proposals that balance client needs with firm standards.
  • Partner closely with underwriting teams on credit memos, approvals, portfolio monitoring, and ongoing risk management.
  • Lead resolution efforts for margin events and market-driven risk scenarios, ensuring timely escalation and disciplined execution.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to credit policies, regulatory requirements, and internal control frameworks.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively with clients and internal stakeholders to manage expectations and deliver a best-in-class client experience.

Qualifications Experience & Skills

  • 8 plus years of experience in high net worth or ultra-high net worth lending, with direct exposure to securities-based lending origination, structuring, underwriting, or credit analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of Regulation T, margin rules, and collateral mechanics, including familiarity with derivatives and structured products as they relate to margin lending.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure sophisticated, client-specific financing solutions within a disciplined risk framework.
  • Strong commercial judgment, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and partner effectively across coverage, risk, and product teams.
  • Collaborative mindset with a strong sense of accountability and ownership in a high-performing, client-driven environment.
  • Experience lending against controlled or restricted equity positions is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent professional experience).

Required Licensing

  • Series 7, Series 63, and SIE (or required to obtain within four months of joining the firm).

Salary Range

The expected base salary for this California, United States-based position is $85,000-$270,000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
