Overview
- We are seeking a Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Specialist to support preconstruction and active construction projects by coordinating 3D building models and resolving design conflicts before work begins in the field.
- This role is responsible for creating and managing coordinated BIM models, working with architects, engineers, and trade partners, and helping project teams identify and solve constructability issues early. The VDC Specialist serves as the communication bridge between design teams and field operations to ensure projects are built accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
- This is a hands-on role using 3D modeling technology to improve project planning, coordination, and execution.
What You Will Do
Model Coordination & BIM Management
Set up and manage project models in Revit, Navisworks, and related BIM platforms
Implement and maintain the BIM Execution Plan for assigned projects
Combine architectural, structural, and MEP trade models into a coordinated federated model
Perform clash detection and identify conflicts between building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, and architectural)
Work with project teams and trade partners to resolve coordination issues prior to construction
Maintain accurate and up-to-date models throughout the project lifecycle
Project Collaboration
Participate in preconstruction planning and coordination efforts
Lead or support weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors, designers, and project teams
Communicate design conflicts and coordinate solutions across multiple stakeholders
Track RFIs, observations, and action items and follow through to resolution
Assist with coordination schedules and ensure modeling milestones align with project schedules
Field & Construction Support
Prepare models for use in the field (tablets/iPads and viewing platforms)
Support superintendents and field staff with model navigation and layout understanding
Assist in resolving field coordination issues during construction
Update models to reflect design revisions and field changes (as-built conditions)
Continuous Improvement
Help improve internal VDC processes and modeling standards
Support project teams and subcontractors in understanding BIM/VDC requirements
Assist in the transition from design coordination to construction execution
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related field
1+ years of experience in BIM/VDC, construction coordination, or building modeling within the AEC industry
Experience coordinating architectural and MEP systems on commercial construction projects
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Revit and Navisworks
Familiarity with BIM collaboration platforms (BIM360, Procore, or similar)
Working knowledge of Bluebeam and Microsoft Office
Understanding of construction documentation (RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, as-builts)
Experience with 3D scanning, laser capture, or drones is a plus
