Mission Contribution: The Sorting & Equipment Operator supports the efficient and profitable operation of the E-Commerce department by ensuring the timely movement, accurate sorting, and proper handling of donated books and media. This role contributes to production flow, operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and adherence to Goodwill's safety and stewardship standards.

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the E-Commerce Manager, the Sorting & Equipment Operator performs sorting, material handling, and equipment operation duties essential to maintaining continuous workflow within the E-Commerce operation. This position supports automated sorting processes, operates warehouse equipment, stages and relocates materials, and collaborates with team members to meet established productivity, quality, and safety standards. Work is performed in alignment with Goodwill's policies, procedures, and performance expectations.

Essential Functions:


  1. Operate within the Autoline to ensure continuous, accurate sorting of books and media. Maintain a steady flow of materials onto conveyors, monitor equipment performance, address minor stoppages, and communicate issues to management promptly to prevent workflow disruptions.
  2. Support E-Commerce production and operational goals by maintaining continuous workflow and achieving established productivity, accuracy, and quality standards on the Autoline and associated sorting processes. Anticipate material needs, communicate status updates, and collaborate with team members to meet production targets.
  3. Perform accurate visual sorting of books and media to determine the appropriate category, destination, or processing path, ensuring inventory accuracy and adherence to quality standards.
  4. Operate material-handling equipment including pallet jacks, forklifts, and the gaylord tipper to safely load, unload, relocate, and stage containers of books and media in alignment with operational guidelines.
  5. Assist with staging, transporting, and organizing materials to support warehouse flow, order fulfillment readiness, and overall operational efficiency.
  6. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including the Autoline, equipment stations, and warehouse zones. Perform housekeeping duties and safely operate the compactor/auger as needed.
  7. Identify workflow, safety, and equipment concerns, and communicate suggestions for improvements to management to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and overall performance.
  8. Demonstrate strong work habits, including reliable attendance, punctuality, teamwork, professionalism, and accountability to production and sales goals.
  9. Demonstrate adaptability and initiative by participating in cross-training, learning new processes or equipment, and supporting departmental changes as directed by management.
  10. Always maintain professional conduct, reporting unsafe conditions, equipment issues, unprofessional behavior, theft, or injuries to management immediately.
  11. Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following all safety policies, procedures, and equipment-operation standards.
  12. Provide general support to the E-Commerce operation as needed or assigned, ensuring alignment with Goodwill policies and operational goals.
  13. Demonstrate decision-making and behavior aligned with Goodwill's Good to Great philosophy.
  14. Participate in training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  16. Adhere to all Goodwill policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with team members and supervisors.
  • Ability to follow safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedures.


Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:


  • Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required period of time upon employment.
  • Ability to complete and obtain a forklift certification administered by Goodwill.

Special Requirements:


  • Having a cell phone is not required for employment, but access to applications and/or resources may be limited unless a cell phone is used for authentication.
  • Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the facility.
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. Must be able to stand for long periods.
  • Able to lift, push, pull, carry, or otherwise move up to forty (40) pounds regularly without support. For weight over forty (40) pounds, request additional team member assistance as needed.

Work Environment:


  • Warehouse/fast-paced environment, including operation of the Autoline and other material-handling equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not normally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, dust, odors, and moderate to loud noise levels, and work near moving conveyors and equipment. Employees may occasionally lift, push, pull, or transport containers of books and media.
