Summary
Senior Director, Internal Controls
The Senior Director, Internal Controls will be responsible for designing, implementing, and leading a robust internal control framework across Advantage Solutions. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., Sarbanes-Oxley Act), mitigates financial and operational risks, safeguards assets, and supports accurate and reliable financial reporting. The position will partner with Finance, internal and external auditors, IT and senior leadership to strengthen governance, drive continuous improvement, enhance risk mitigation and management capabilities, and create operational efficiency in control processes across the organization.

Responsibilities
The Company is one of North America's leading sales and marketing agencies specializing in outsourced sales, merchandising, category management, and marketing services to manufacturers, suppliers, and producers of food products and consumer packaged goods. The Company services a variety of trade channels including grocery, mass merchandise, specialty, convenience, drug, dollar, club, hardware, consumer electronics, and home centers. We bridge the gap between manufacturers and retailers, providing consumers access to the best products available in the marketplace today.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain internal control framework: Establish, document, and rationalize policies, procedures, and control design standards aligned with internal control frameworks and regulatory requirements Stay current on regulatory changes and assess their impact on internal controls
- Risk assessment and mitigation: Lead management's regulatory scoping and risk assessment processes in coordination with internal and external audit Identify control gaps across business processes, information technology general controls, and application controls Recommend and drive remediation plans for control gaps and deficiencies Support development of enterprise risk management structures and methodologies
- Testing and monitoring: Oversee monitoring of internal control deficiencies and ensure timely, high-quality remediation by control owners Partner with internal audit on testing strategies and continuous monitoring initiatives
- Cross-functional collaboration and advisory: Serve as a key advisor to accounting, finance, operations, and information technology on internal control effectiveness, process governance, and risk mitigation Coordinate with internal and external audit throughout the audit cycle and interim reviews
- Training and cultural adoption: Develop and deliver training programs to promote a strong control culture across the organization, including certification processes, internal controls over financial reporting, and information technology controls Support organizational efforts to elevate process discipline, accountability, and change readiness
- Audit support: Coordinate timely and accurate responses to audit requests in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Continuous improvement: Drive automation and process optimization to improve control visibility, effectiveness, and efficiency Leverage enterprise resource planning systems and governance, risk, and compliance platforms to enhance control program maturity
- Policies and procedures: Lead the rationalization, review, and establishment of corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, clarity, and compliance across the organization
- Internal controls steering committee: Establish and manage an internal controls steering committee, including agenda development, materials preparation, and cross-functional coordination
Qualifications
- Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree
- Experience Requirements: 10-12 years experience in relevant field
- Travel requirement: No travel requirements
Supervisor Responsibility
- Direct Reports: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities for direct reports
- Indirect Reports: Does not have direct reports, but may delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated experience establishing or growing a regulatory-compliant internal controls function at a publicly traded company
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
- Passion for leveraging data and technology pragmatically and at scale
- Entrepreneurial mindset balancing innovation with results-oriented execution
- Data analytics background and or continuous monitoring experience
- Adaptability and comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, generally accepted accounting principles, and internal control frameworks
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple business units
- Strong knowledge and understanding of enterprise resource planning and reporting systems
- Experience in retailer and multinational environments preferred
Environmental & Physical Requirements Office / Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically, requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may require the ability to lift up to 10lbs.
