Description

McLane is building the next generation of digital supply chain capabilities-and we're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives on designing and delivering high-performance backend systems at enterprise scale. In this role, you'll focus on building and enhancing scalable microservices within the McLane 360 ecosystem, partnering across product, supply chain, data, infrastructure, and operations to translate complex business needs into reliable software platforms. You'll help shape architectural decisions that drive scalability, resilience, security, and long-term maintainability, while also owning production systems end-to-end

This is a hybrid position which will require the candidate to report and work from the office at least three days a week. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute radius from Austin or Temple, TX.

Benefits you can count on:

  • Day 1 Benefits: medical, dental, and vision insurance, FSA/HSA, and company-paid life insurance
  • Paid time off begins day one.
  • 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan after 90 days.
  • Additional benefits: pet insurance, maternity/paternity leave, employee assistance programs, discount programs, tuition reimbursement program, and more!
What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and evolve scalable microservices and cloud-native backend microservices that power digital supply chain operations across the enterprise.
  • Serve as a technical lead and architect for distributed systems, applying microservices, event-driven patterns, and API-first design to deliver resilient, fault-tolerant solutions.
  • Own delivery end-to-end: requirements system design development deployment monitoring/observability production support.
  • Establish and model strong engineering practices for code quality, testing, observability, security, and performance, and lead complex troubleshooting and root-cause analysis across application/infrastructure/integration layers.
  • Drive modernization: reduce technical debt, improve platform sustainability, and adopt emerging technologies responsibly (including AI/ML and automation where it meaningfully improves outcomes).
  • Help teams move faster and safer by advancing CI/CD automation, infrastructure-as-code, and deployment strategies aligned with enterprise DevSecOps standards.
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and technical coaching-raising engineering maturity across the organization.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking a senior engineer who combines strong hands-on engineering with architectural leadership and an ownership mindset.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years professional software engineering experience, including ownership of enterprise-scale production systems.
  • Demonstrated strength in system design for complex, distributed applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more modern languages-Java strongly preferred for our microservices ecosystem (plus other languages such as Python, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure and/or GCP), including containerization, orchestration, and managed services (GCP preferred).
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing, observability tooling, and secure coding practices.
  • This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.

Preferred strengths:

  • Experience integrating with supply chain, logistics, ERP, or data platforms.
  • A track record of building systems that balance throughput, reliability, cost efficiency, performance, and security.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration-able to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical partners.
  • Comfort operating in Agile, fast-moving environments.

Why Join Us

  • Mission-critical impact: Your work directly powers large-scale, enterprise platforms that enable McLane's digital supply chain capabilities-from demand planning to logistics and inventory optimization.
  • Architectural ownership: You'll influence and drive key technical decisions to ensure systems are scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable for the long haul.
  • Modern engineering environment: Cloud-native architectures, microservices, event-driven design, API-first thinking, CI/CD automation, and DevSecOps-aligned delivery are core expectations-not afterthoughts.
  • Growth and leadership: You'll mentor engineers, shape best practices, and help modernize legacy platforms-raising the bar across teams.
  • Strong enterprise partnerships: Work closely with product, data, infrastructure, and operations leaders to build software tied to real operational outcomes and reliability metrics.

Candidates may be subject to a background check and drug screen, in accordance with applicable laws.

All applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
