Description

Job Summary:

The Trust Officer is responsible for the interpretation and execution of legal documentation as presented for Estate and Trust Administration, maintaining and deepening existing client relationships, and ensuring the department's fiduciary responsibilities are met. This role is also responsible for securing new business from new and existing clients.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:



  • Oversee assigned personal trusts, estates, trusts in lieu of probate, agencies, conservatorships, IRAs, OBRA trusts, and other court supervised trusts, per the terms of the controlling document.
  • Service customers with regard to investments, estate planning, tax planning at the entity and beneficiary level, and long-term family asset planning.
  • Suggest as appropriate and assist in implementing custodial (de facto guardianship) and other personal care services for incapacitated or incompetent beneficiaries.
  • Interpret Wills, trusts, and other legal documents balancing demands of customers with the business risk.
  • Develop new profitable client relationships.
  • Develop and use internal referral relationships with other Bank departments.
  • Continuously review and adapt business practices to adhere to American Bank & Trust strategic objectives and goals.
  • Automate business processes utilizing technology.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • Extensive knowledge of Trust tax and legal requirements.
  • Ability to service clients in a manner which will develop trust and long-term relationships.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • High-level relationship, sales, and interpersonal skills.


Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Trust administration or related legal or financial role preferred.
  • Juris doctorate or CFP preferred.
  • Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation preferred.


Equipment/Software:



  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with Paycom, Banktel, Accutech Cheetah, Finastra Sales and Service preferred.
